TECHNICAL SERVICE SPECIALIST

Position Summary:

Provides technical support to customers and assists in customer inquiries regarding proper repair procedures. Repairs products returned from customers to good, working order. Provides field service and installation support for local IVF laboratories. Maintains and updates all necessary equipment repair records and documentation.

Essential Functions:

* Answers inquiries over the telephone and email from customers and sales reps. Offers technical support over the telephone as necessary. This requires patience and control in adverse situations.
* Evaluates, troubleshoots, and estimates costs for parts and time for repair. Testing of refrigeration, electronic, optical and electro-mechanical devices using a variety of test equipment. Repairs such devices using soldering, brazing, and assembly tools.
* Provides service quotes to customers and assists with scheduling of service activities.
* If not able to assist customer/sales rep. over the phone, travels to customer's location to assist customer and/or sales rep. in the set up or troubleshooting of capital equipment.
* Enters information into the computer system, including logging-in repairs, updating repairs as status changes, and closing and recording all work performed on an instrument.
* Maintains proper repair standards.
* Refurbishes returned material to new standards.
* Performs other duties and assignment as required by management.
* After training, this position will be responsible for support hours from 9:00am - 6:00pm and could include occasional weekend call hours.

Qualifications:

* Minimum of associate degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
* Medical equipment background preferred.
* Good interpersonal skills when relating with customers, peers and management.
* Ability to understand the details of Bills of Material, Schematic Drawings, and Blueprints.
* Familiarity with electronic test equipment, optical test equipment, soldering, brazing, and associated hand tools.
* Experience in circuit board testing and electrical troubleshooting with a good working knowledge of electronic schematics.
* Analytical abilities to diagnose repair needs of improperly functioning products.
