About the Team

The Williams-Sonoma Supply Chain Engineering organization is seeking an energetic and talented Technical Engineering Manager to deliver high value, high-quality business capabilities to our Supply Chain technology platform. At Williams-Sonoma, we are implementing a range of best of breed technology in our supply chain in support of our 6 amazing brands -- Williams-Sonoma, West Elm, Mark and Graham and the Pottery Barn family.

About the Role

In the role of Technical Engineering Manager in the Order Management team, you'll lead scrum teams working to deliver business capabilities from inventory promise, customer care/order management to fulfillment processing and invoice. You will be able to apply your strong technical skills to find innovative solutions to problems, thinking outside the box with strong engineering principles in mind. You'll work closely with engineers and Product Managers to craft user stories, design and develop product features.

* Assist in designing and defining new features

* Work with Architecture to craft technical designs and drive the evolution of our system architecture to be more extensible, fault tolerant and scalable.
* Be responsible for the quality of code developed by the team. Perform code reviews and recommends corrections as necessary. Coach team members in coding and development skills.Develop a deep understanding of key systems and processes.
* Perform a key role in the delivery transformation to an Agile / Scrum methodology
* Participate as a member of the engineering leadership in setting and executing strategy for the team
* Estimate development effort, perform resource allocation and plan implementations and system rollouts
* Assist in constantly improving the Engineering organization and making it a great place to work
* Guide and counsel on Williams-Sonoma Inc. policies and procedures related to software development and delivery.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

We're excited about you because...

* You have a Bachelors degree -- or foreign equivalent -- in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or 8 years of progressively responsible experience in software development
* You have a minimum 4 years of application development experience with backend systems like Order Management applications to include, configuration, custom extensions, and user exits.
* You have been practicing Java programming professionally for at least 8 years
* You bring 1-3 years of experience managing a team of 5+ people
* You hit the ground running on day 1 and take the ownership of your work and can work independently.
* You have the ability to express thoughts and ideas in a clear, succinct way -- both oral and written

Technical Competencies Required:

* You've developed various high traffic backend services for eCommerce and Retail web applications.
* You know inside out of fundamentals of Java, specifically JDK8+, JUnit, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins & SonarQube.
* You've built scalable web applications and services using open-source Java Frameworks: Spring MVC/Web Flux and Spring Boot.
* You've designed web applications and clearly understand concepts like Web Services, SOA, REST APIs.
* You love Git and are at home with Merge/Rebase concepts.
* You're comfortable using App Servers like Tomcat and JBOSS.
* You've thoroughly used SQL & NoSQL solutions like Oracle, Cassandra & Redis and understand pros and cons of relational and free form databases.
* You believe in Agile development and are comfortable with SCRUM process.
* You have experience in refactoring existing codebase and in understanding existing implementations to decide to refactor or rewrite.
* You know how to identify Performance bottlenecks at storage level (databases) and services (code). You use and evangelize good coding patterns to avoid them in the first place.
* You're a strong advocate of good coding standards and preach code-coverage tools like SonarQube.
* You've been managing 5-7 person team for the past 2 years.
