Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

Clearance RequirementsDepartment of Defense SECRET security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Cleared Software Lead Engineer with at least 5 years of software development experience plus leadership experience to join our Tactical Control System (TCS) team. We provide the Navy's AN/BYG-1 Submarine Combat System software to the entire submarine fleet. This position provides an opportunity to develop cutting-edge technical support for the United States Navy (USN) and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Submarine Combat systems. Our close-knit team is passionate for delivering the best product to the Navy which directly helps the USN and RAN do their job to protect our country. Our team works closely with the Submarine community to develop solutions that allow the Navy to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work with the current SW Lead to co-lead a SW team of 30 or more C++ and Java developers within a Linux environment. Throughout the life cycle of the program, the SW Leads ensure that the team provides the necessary research, design and development of systems software, software applications and/or tools for new and existing programs and subprograms. The SW Lead must show a passion for leadership, innovation, a sophisticated understanding of software systems and applications, with the ability to effectively manage, grow and evolve software solutions. In addition, the Lead must provide strong expertise and leadership in areas including managing routine Builds, Unit Testing, Automated Testing, Architecture support, IRADs, and new business development.

Required Skills and Experience

* C++ and JAVA software development in a Linux environment
* Diverse programming skills including graphical programming
* Re-Architecture and refactoring software baselines
* Team Leadership
* Jira and BitBucket

Preferred Skills and Experience

* Five or more years of software development experience on a medium or large DoD program
* Leadership over a medium or large team of Software Engineers
* SWFTS and AN/BYG-1 System design
* Geospatial software development (such as ArcGIS)
* Agile Development

Preferred Degree Types

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent field with at least 5 years of work experience. Work location is at the GDMS Headquarters Fair Lakes Office in Fairfax, Virginia.
