Job Description

Do you love applying your systems engineering skills to critical national needs?

Can you be counted on to solve some of the country's most significant defense problems?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a systems engineer with Model Based Systems Engineering experience (MBSE) who improves our ability to deliver exceptional solutions to our sponsors. You will apply your systems thinking and analysis skills in a fast-growing, learn-as-you-go environment. We will support your professional development as a go-to person for understanding of systems architecture, operational concepts, and specifications. In our group, we ask questions, identify problems, propose solutions, and meet deadlines, all to ensure an operational capability that meets national defense needs. We will give you the autonomy you want, the support you need, and all the opportunity you can handle. We strive for an environment of continuous improvement, listening, and teamwork. You will learn something new every single day.

As a Systems Engineer...

* Your primary responsibility will be to provide systems engineering support to advanced missile defense programs. You will develop concepts, craft architectural solutions, evaluate requirements, design interfaces, execute trade studies -- all within the context of an MBSE development process. You will review existing specifications, develop and maintain models, make recommendations to improve the system, assess proposed contractor solutions, and ensure third-party products fit within the solution framework you have helped to build.
* You will participate in the evolution of our robust MBSE methodology, applicable to a wide variety of systems. Whether it's fielded equipment that needs new capability or an idea that exists only on a napkin, you will help us define the best SE tools for the job. You will make improvements to processes, recommend standard presentation artifacts, find chances to create new approaches, and teach others how to use the methodology we have developed.
* You will prepare for and participate in technical interchange meetings and major program reviews, providing insight to contractor, government agency, and research laboratory participants. Given the quality of work you will have done leading up to this point, expect to be the one decision makers listen to when key technical questions are asked.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

* Have a bachelor's degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent experience.
* Have 5-10 years' of engineering experience and 3 years with MBSE principles, techniques, and tools.
* Are able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing -- and, at the same time, can understand and appreciate what others are saying.
* Are willing and able to travel up to 5% of the time
* Are a U.S. citizen able to obtain a Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government clearance investigation.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

* Have 2 or more years experience using Innoslate as part of an MBSE methodology to address real-world systems.
* Have experience working on missile defense programs.
* Have a Secret or above security clearance.
