Job Description

Responsible for the implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of directorate-wide infrastructure with special focus on Windows-based servers and services. Serves as lead systems administrator for the CELS Windows environment, and for designing and supporting efforts in the directorate's Windows-based scientific computing infrastructure, including lab machines, developer workstations, and management of them. Assignments may include process and tools development, user support, participation in the planning, design, and implementation phases of infrastructure computing technologies including servers, networks, and operating systems, evaluation and testing of new software, user collaboration, and project support. Responsible for developing, executing, and implementing in the areas of project plans, budgets, and schedules. Coordinates with Argonne's central IT group (BIS) in management of the laboratory's Active Directory, how it pertains to the CELS OU, and policies and other services hosted by BIS.

Position Requirements

* Bachelor's and 2+ years of experience or equivalent.
* Experience with Windows systems administration and optimization.
* Comprehensive experience with design, implementation, and maintenance of critical infrastructure services in an enterprise information technology environment.
* Knowledge of operating and software systems including implementation, maintenance, and best practices.
* Comprehensive knowledge of Virtual Machine technologies, including VMware and Hyper-V.
* Skill in troubleshooting complex technical issues.
* Considerable experience with application servers and related technologies, and software tools used in programming web-based applications.
* Knowledge of systems analysis and design, including troubleshooting complex or multiple integrated systems and services.
* Considerable knowledge in database usage and administration, including mySQL and Microsoft SQL.
* Experience in programming or script writing and automation.
* Skill in dealing with assignments and working on several projects simultaneously, while both working independently and as a member of a team.
* Considerable verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience with highly available and redundant operating system service strategies and implementations.
* Good skill at organizing project tasks and coordinating the completion of high-priority technical products within budget and time constraints.
