Summer Intern - Jr. Cloud / DevOps Engineer

This internship is in a core area of BCBSMA, in which we are growing our full time workforce. If you are interested in pursuing a full time role at BCBSMA after graduation, this is a great opportunity to showcase your abilities. Applicants must expect to complete their degree and be available to work full time within one year of the end of the internship.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is embarking on the exciting journey of driving a culture shift to Cloud, Agile and DevSecOps, delivering value for our customers and business through our Digital & Analytics platform. In our newly established DevOps practice we have an exciting opportunity for an energetic, passionate, and eager-to-learn DevOps Engineer who is keen to support multiple Digital & Analytics team for their different releases, Build CICD pipeline and bring automation and maintain Cloud & DevOps toolsets.

What do you want the intern to learn in 6 months?

* A beginner's understanding of BCBSMA business as it relates to our members, their customer experience, Analytics and Data Science Use cases.
* Understanding of BCBSMA technical environment i.e. Cloud, DevOps, Release Engineering, Software Engineering, various Toolsets.
* Familiarity with Digital & Analytics toolsets.
* Ability to manage and administer tools like - Jira, Confluence, GitLab, GitHub, Slack, Jenkins, Artifactory etc.
* Ability to do automation using CloudFormation and other scripting language.
* Knowledge about how major releases happened in an Enterprise and how different processes get followed like Change Management, Dependency Management, Architecture Review Board, Security Requirements etc.
* Software engineering disciplines using Agile methodologies in a fast-paced, flexible, pod environment with virtual teams comprised of onshore/offshore and local/remote resources
* Provide resource & effort estimations and partner closely with developers, analysts, testers and other Agile POD members to deliver optimal solutions.
* The ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
* Communicate complex technical topics to non-technical resources and leadership. Provide technical guidance on alternative approaches to issues that arise. Document and articulate complex solutions via diagrams and presentations.

What are the skills and expertise that you expect them to bring to the table?

* Hands On AWS Cloud Experience
* Knowledge of DevOps and release Engineering
* Desire to do automation and interest in scripting languages
* Strong fundamentals of Operating Systems, Networking, Databases, Programming (Mobile, Web, API) and Cloud.
* Working experience with tools like Jira, Slack, Jenkins, Git is highly desirable.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to research problem independently and bring solutions with multiple options
* Excellent analysis skills and the ability to develop & document processes and methodologies.
* Ability to build strong relationships in a matrix organization, particularly with teams in enterprise architecture, security, infrastructure, services, and data analytics
* Ability to align with leadership direction and provide recommendations to optimize technology to deliver business value quickly with quality
* Proven self-starter with demonstrated ability to make decisions
* Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
* Excellent customer service skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and excellent organizational and time management skills
