Staff Software Engineer - Backend Recommendations Platform

Job Description

In this Backend role, you will:

* Design, develop, and operate scalable and resilient distributed core services supporting all Tinder backend applications, running on Kubernetes or ECS
* Collaborate with various functional teams on the expansion of our backend platform
* Influence the roadmap and product development of the Tinder App and services
* Mentor and guide junior engineers.

We're looking for:

* 8+ years of software development experience
* BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering
* Excellent understanding of data stores, distributed systems, knows when to or not to use them
* Strong knowledge on backend architecture, knows when and where to making tradeoffs
* Excellent knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, software design, and coding
* Experience in designing and building distributed backend systems handling high volumes of traffic with low latency
* Experience in handling ambiguous business requirements with excellent execution
* Passion to solve complex and challenging problems and make continuous improvements
* An advocate for good code quality and best engineering practices
* Excellent knowledge and experience with backend languages like Java, Scala, Go, Node.js, etc.

Bonus points if you have:

* Experience in design and development using NoSQL, such as DynamoDB or Cassandra
* Experience with AWS, Redis, ElasticSearch, Kafka, and Spark
* Experience with Agile development methodology and/or CI/CD
* Experience with Docker containers along with Kubernetes or ECS
* Experience with JVM performance tuning, good understanding of its low level details
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal
