Position Summary

As a Backend Engineer, you will be an integral part of the team that enables our customers to engage with our data. Your expertise will help us transform the way large organizations manage and secure their systems.

At Expanse, ownership starts at defining the problem and seeing it through, from architecture and implementation to rollout and support.

What You'll Do

* Work closely with our PM team to define feature specifications and build the next generation of products focused on securing the enterprise perimeter
* Design, build, and optimize multi-tiered web applications for maximum speed and scale, using a number of backend storage technologies including Postgres, Bigtable, and Elasticsearch
* Create fast and intuitive RESTful APIs using Java and Python
* Assess and communicate the technical feasibility of different feature requests to the product team
* Drive projects to completion

About You

* 10 years of experience as a professional software engineer
* Proficiency in Python, Java
* Deep understanding of relational databases and SQL
* Experience with column and document stores, including when to use them and how to model data
* Working knowledge of API design and distributed backend systems
* Self-driven and self-motivated
* Experience building for scale and performance
* Comfortable supporting your work in production
* Willing and able to work in San Francisco, CA
