Job Description

ZT Systems is seeking a Senior Sustaining Engineer to help sustain delivered systems and further improve reliability for our customers. The Sustaining Engineer will support the customer by triaging issues, validating issues and driving RCAs for all reported system issues in the field. In doing so, the sustaining engineer will work with cross-functional teams, subject matter experts, and vendors to help implement a solution. Additionally, this position will proactively develop sustaining support for new products before entering customer's data centers.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

* Execute hardware reliability system testing, reliability stresses, failure analysis and provide statistical analysis
* Respond to failure analysis requests from customer and ZT staff in a timely manner
* Create and execute system test plans to help validate customer reported issues on motherboards, PCIe components, BIOS, BMC, CPLD, CPU, PSUs and HDD/SSD.
* Conduct failure analysis on field issues until root cause is determined based on Issue reproduction, system log analysis and low-level debugging. Controlled testing of suspect hardware, system or firmware. Engagement of internal engineering departments and vendors
* Work with customer, internal teams and vendor to manage implementation of solution and help manage change control
* Proactively support field sustaining activities by maintaining known issue/solution list (Errata list), developing and automating functional tests via scripting and assisting with re-qualification of HW/FW and PCNs
* Participate in product design and reliability reviews during new product development to ensure robustness of product design and manufacturing processes
* Be an outstanding representative of ZT Systems at all times

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Ideal candidates will have a background in issue reproduction, system log analysis and low-level debugging
* Knowledge of server hardware interfaces and Industry specifications such as SMBus/I2C, PCIe, ACPI, DDR, IPMI, 10G/1G Ethernet, SATA, SPI, I2C
* Experienced in decoding and troubleshooting Machine-check exception (MCE)
* Exceptional server architecture knowledge with deep understanding of common components & system type failures, proven RCA or Failure analysis history and experienced in controlled experiments to determine root cause
* Working knowledge of how system components interact with the system at the BIOS and BMC
* Solid experience with IPMI utilization in diagnostics and standard benchmark tools performance testing
* Linux or Window scripting experience is a plus (not a hard requirement)
* Occasional travel may be required

Education

* BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science

Experience

* 6+ years of experience in a similar function. Computer Manufacturing or Electronic Manufacturing industry preferred
