About

Job Description

The Sr. MSS Manager leads a diverse group of specialized individual contributors and management staff. The MSS group is accountable for the site manufacturing IT systems, including the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), MES and Control System integration (distributed control system or stand-alone controllers), Electronic Batch Record and Electronic Equipment Use Log (EBR/eEUL) implementation and management, data historian system maintenance and upgrade, Manufacturing IT infrastructure monitoring and administration (firewall, servers, switches, cyber security, user management, etc.), and specialized data reports and data tools development. Responsibilities include:

Business

* Provide oversight of the people, tools and processes to deliver systems and tools in accordance with agreed site and network KPIs


* Develop and track success metrics to drive site goals and KPIs


* Develop monitoring and reliability driven metrics to minimize unplanned downtime and quick recovery of key production and IT systems


* Champion Lean Production principles and practices


* Continually improve customer service and satisfaction across departments


* Lead and sponsor initiatives to increase agility, efficiency, support and compliance of our manufacturing execution systems, data tools, data processes, data integration and data visualization.


* Develop and present business justification and cost benefit analysis for new technologies and retrofit or upgrade of existing platforms


* Influence department budget and support personnel and contract management (head count decision input, service contracts management, contract review and approval, Capital project purchase order and statement of work approval, site financial planning participation)



Quality

* Act as system owner for all the Manufacturing Software Systems


* Keep up to date with the evolving cyber security and data integrity landscape ensuring that SSFP Mfg. software systems and processes are compliant with these changes


* Sustain Roche data integrity, security and audit requirements


* Drive continuous improvement (processes, systems, data and skills) and sustain our engrained quality culture



People

* Manage performance and career development of staff


* Develop visual metrics to drive goals, KPIs and increase productivity



Partnership

* Represent Roche in interactions with Key Opinion Leaders and other external groups in partnership with internal stakeholders (e.g. Quality, Operations, Engineering, Roche Pharma Development, Roche Pharma Technical Innovation, Roche Informatics).


* Develop alliances with key vendors (e.g. Emerson, Rockwell, Google, Amazon) for new technologies and cost effective support of legacy data tools



Technology

* Influence and shape site Automation Manufacturing Computerized system roadmap and 5 year investment strategy


* Drive introduction of innovative, flexible and cost effective IT/OT systems


* Drive technology selection: identify and drive execution of digital technologies best suited for current and future automation landscape (fixed asset and single use technologies); and identify and drive execution of best use cases for cloud computing, data lake and data warehouse platforms


* Drive system and data definition standardization by partnership with Roche internal and external groups


* Drive Manufacturing paperless strategies by expansion of MES and/or cost effective data reporting tools


* Develop life cycle management requirements (e.g. inventory, retire or replace) for all Manufacturing software systems



Qualifications

We are seeking an inspirational technical leader with a high appetite for technology for this role. The qualifications of the right candidate include:

* Bachelor's degree in a directly related discipline such as Computer Science or Engineering; Master's degree in Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or Computer Science is preferred


* 10+ years of experience and proven track record of technical leadership including people management


* Expert level knowledge of ISA S95 data architecture design (e.g. SAP, MES, DCS data integration), networking (OPC, TCP/IP, DNS, etc.), and relational databases


* Experience successfully building, deploying, and supporting manufacturing execution systems and an enterprise-scale web application (in a management role)


* Experience working in regulated industries such as Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, or Food and Beverage; expertise in regulatory and industry requirements and trends (e.g. GAMP 5, cGMP, ICH, CFR part 11, Data Integrity, Cybersecurity)


* Knowledge of key Manufacturing Automation systems (e.g. Emerson Delta V and Emerson Syncade, Rockwell PharmaSuite, OSI PI data historian)


* Knowledge of cloud computing solutions, data lake or data warehouse is preferred


* Proven teamwork skills with a track record of working highly effectively, efficiently and collaboratively with others; proven experience and skills working with multidisciplinary teams


* Comfortable with ambiguity and able to deal positively with new challenges/capabilities required by the company


* Proactive approach and "can-do" attitude


* Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to navigate complex corporate environments and influence stakeholders and partners


* Strong communication, with the ability to explain complex technical problems to non-technical audiences


* Quick learner with the ability to understand complex problems and develop and deliver innovative solutions


* Global experience, influencing or (preferably) managing remote teams to deliver software releases is preferred
