Sr. Firewall Engineer (Palo Alto)

Job Description

The Firewall Engineer IV is a key position that provides network services to internal and external customers. The individual will design and implement networks for RealPage data centers. The engineer will be responsible for the daily management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of all RealPage. In addition the Engineer will regularly interact and work directly with internal customers to troubleshoot network issues, discuss network architecture, present possible network solutions and enhancements, and implement agreed upon solutions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Manage and monitor the network infrastructure including; network devices, backbone, and remote office connections. Devices include switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, servers, and virtual appliances / servers.
* Determine operational weaknesses within the existing network infrastructure and present execution plans to overcoming those concerns in a timely fashion while still making the most cost-efficient use of resources.
* Evaluate and identify opportunities to improve the security and/or performance of existing environments.
* Interact with other teams to provide escalation support during outages and customer issues even if the problem might not be directly related to the network infrastructure.
* Interact directly with technical and non-technical customers/vendors to resolve incidents and manage project tasks.
* Work to completion all projects assigned to the engineer and exhaust all possible resources in order to provide results on time, within specifications, and on budget.
* Lend expertise during design, deployment, and troubleshooting across the breadth of the Realpage networks.
* Documents IT activities such as downtime, problems, and systems configurations.
* Maintain a positive and professional attitude while participating in after hour/weekend network maintenance and on-call responsibilities.
* Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routing, security/NAT policies on physical and virtual firewalls and routers.
* Architect firewall policy and changes
* Implementation and enforcement of existing and self-designed security measures and policies to protect the RealPage and client networks from both external and internal attacks and/or abuses.
* Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot IPsec VPN tunnels between sites and VPN servers for remote user access.
* Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot virtual servers, SSL certificate management and SSL offloading of client web environments.
* Travel as required to meet project objectives. Approximately 15% travel.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

* Palo Alto network experience (3 years)
* Minimum of 7 years of progressive network operations and engineering experience in enterprise and data-center environments.
* In depth knowledge and experience with the implementation and support of switched and routed networks and associated protocols: TCP/IP, NAT/PAT, HSRP, STP, PBR
* Ability to document solutions with Visio.
* Must have ability to effectively communicate with clients, management, and peers.
* Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE

* Routing & Switching and/or Security certifications: CCNP, CCNA, PCNSE, Security+
* Firewalls: Palo Alto, Cisco ASA
* Load Balancers: F5, PKI and SSL certificate management
* Wireless: Aruba
* Experience with SD-WAN, SolarWinds/Orion, Riverbed a plus
