Sr. Feeds Engineer

Job Description

Position Purpose: The Sr. Feeds Engineer will work with a team to run, schedule and maintain the system processes and dependency engine which handles data/file transfers between Ascensus College Savings and partners. They must have strong troubleshooting skills and will be responsible for monitoring processes to ensure they run, foresee any issues with how processes may run or collide with other processes, and respond to failures or delays in processing. They also have responsibility for developing new automation configurations and associated Perl/shell scripts. The Feeds Engineer needs to be able to use various utilities on Unix/Linux systems for file and data manipulation. Familiarity with SQL and public key encryption are also a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Monitor existing and new processes for data management
* Troubleshoot missed events and failures; file transfers, process executions
* 24x7 pager rotation
* Assist production support with early-morning issues, and escalate when necessary
* Work with rest of feeds team to manage and efficiently execute incoming work requests from other departments


* Execute and improve upon existing systems that process data
* Assist with quarterly Sweeps
* Assist with quarterly and monthly Statements
* Write scripts for new automation
* Work with rest of feeds team to build tools which assist in monitoring, executing, and gathering metrics around feed jobs


* Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

Minimum Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer and/or Information Science
* 2 years shell/Perl programming experience in Unix like environment
* 2 years' experience as Unix "power user" with ability to manipulate files and search for files and file contents in an efficient way using command line tools
* Ability to work non-standard hours on occasion
* Familiar with SQL and oracle databases
* Understanding of file-transfer mechanisms (ftp, scp)
* Understating of Public Key encryption (pgp / gpg )
* Basic file manipulation, searching skills in a Solaris or Linux server environment
* Scripting knowledge in bash, Perl and other Unix scripting utilities
* Strong troubleshooting skills
