Position Summary

The SQL DBA Developer is responsible for designing/configuring the functionality and the continuous improvement and support of the Student information System (SIS) including web and mobile applications that are used by MUIH to support the organizations day-to-day operations.

As part of the role, the SQL DBA Developer will work with other team members and consultants in optimizing in-application SQL statements as necessary, and establishing best practices. Performs in-depth analyses on SIS problems, identifies root causes, and recommends solutions to resolve application malfunctions and prevent recurrence. Performs a variety of data warehouse related activities on an as needed basis. Those activities will include documenting such things as confirming that all data is moving correctly between SIS and Salesforce, resolving data inconsistencies, developing and documenting data flows, defining policies and procedures related to data flows, and acting as a subject matter expert around all data components within SIS. the SQL DBA Developer is responsible for the management of data and log files to ensure that they are stored separately, eliminate any instances of file or index fragmentation, and check for data corruption. The SQL DBA Developer is also responsible for troubleshooting data issues and helping the the SQL Dev/Report Writer and Developers better understanding the data structures and definitions.

* Effectively, professionally, and respectfully represent other Information Technology staff members, teams, and their services to the MUIH community.
* Architect, design, install, create architecture documentation, and perform operational support for all database environments.
* Determine appropriate indexing for new stored procedures and poorly performing queries.
* Work with other IT staff members in writing and optimizing in-application SQL statements as necessary, and establishing best practices.
* Create and manage profiles, roles, and permission sets in SIS
* Ensure performance, security, and availability of all MUIH databases.
* Perform system implementation, configuration, and tuning
* Work closely with stakeholders to ensure all configurations, changes, and processes are aligned with organizational goals
* Attend planning meetings and assist with determining how to fully improve SIS features to meet MUIH goals
* Train and assist users on a regular basis on systems features and updates
* Lead resolving day-to-day SIS issues and managing client expectations
* Prepare and execute data migration road-map for migrating large data from legacy system to ERP/CRM
* Ensure designs and implementations are secure and data handling is in accordance with MUIH standards
* With the community culture in mind, the SQL Developer will serve on committees as needed.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

* Minimum 5 years working with SQL Server and related technologies in the Microsoft Stack.
* 3-5 years of experience of C#, VB, APEX, ASP.NET Web API/MVC. T-SQL, ETL, HTML5, CSS, Groovy and Java
* Proven experience and success with SQL development in an academic settings
* Experience integrating to 3rd party APIs
* Skilled at optimizing large complicated SQL statements, Views, Store Procedures, T-SQL
* Has familiarity with Microsoft Azure and provisioning of SQL Server Databases.
* Must be comfortable with PowerShell scripting
* Provide application development support DDL implementation and maintenance, code review. Includes DDL/Schema changes implementation in development, test, and production systems

The SQL Developer will have a Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent field, an associates degree with 8-10 years of related experience

Preferred:

* Demonstrated experience in higher education with the development and/or support of homegrown application
* Extensive knowledge of ERP platform in academic settings (Jenzabar, Ellucian)
* Proven experience with database & data organization and management
* Ability to formulate programming code in multiple programming languages
* Experience with SalesForce SOQL
* Strong proficiency with SQL and its variation among popular databases

* Excellent documentation skills

Individual must be able to gauge the customer's technical ability and communicate with them in appropriate technical or non-technical language in a non-condescending manner.
