Job Responsibilities

Intervene and perform the support functions, where needed, to ensure the necessary services are provided and availability of the systems is maintained.

Core Systems Administration

* Manage and operate Linux and Solaris servers in a large multinational financial services production environment, in support of 24x7x365 high availability service level commitment to customers
* Manage Symantec's Veritas cluster services/Red Hat Cluster services for supporting Database High availability operations
* Manage virtual environments based on VMware's ESX
* Knowledge of Oracle Solaris features such as containers/ zones, LDOMs, disk mirroring, ZFS, explorer, NFS, RBAC, Veritas Volume Manager, virtual networks are an advantage
* Develop automation using scripts for general Linux/Solaris system administration processes

Manage OS upgrade and patching requirements
* Work with system hardware vendors for ongoing support issues, release schedules, fix packs and general system administration issues
* 24x7 Production Support
* Monitor for and react to alerts within the environment and be able to resolve or escalate them in a timely manner
* Troubleshoot complex problems, providing root cause analysis and remediation to mitigate future risk with appropriate Technical and Operational staff to resolve connectivity issues
* Provide clear communication/escalation/follow up/closure of alerts and outages to multiple teams within the organization.
* Work on break/fix hands on Linux & Solaris platforms
* Ability to take ownership and run with multiple production issues, from alert to hand-off or resolution
* Interaction with external parties for escalation or hardware / software support tickets
* Writing & improving team runbook procedures
* Excellent verbal & written communication
* Development Support
* Support development and professional services teams in system environments designed for product development, solution configuration, customer user acceptance testing, and QA testing
* Develop best practices and operating procedures to support sustained operational efficiency.



Qualifications Required:

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or associated discipline and 5 years' experience
* 5+ years' experience in Systems Administration of SuSE/Redhat Linux systems and Solaris
* Virtual environment in a large-scale production environment preferably financial services (greater than 100 servers)
* 5+ years' experience with VMware virtualization products including but not limited to ESX, vSphere, and vMotion, MQ
* Thorough knowledge of good server and system administration principles.
* Detailed functional knowledge of disk management tools such as LVM2, Veritas Volume Manager and Solaris Volume Manager.
* Functional knowledge of core protocols such as TCP/IP, SSH, SMTP, LDAP, NFS and DNS.
* Knowledge of Solaris zones and Linux Logical Volume Manager required
* Working knowledge of clustering tools such as Veritas Cluster Server
* Familiar with SAN storage, in particular the EMC Storage arrays
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system problems.
* Knowledge and experience with shell scripting (ksh, bourne, bash, or csh).
* Working knowledge of project management techniques to plan and execute projects.
* Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust designation
