Job Description
OpenAI is looking for software engineers with experience in developing interfaces and abstractions for large software projects that involve real-time control systems to support our research in teaching robots new behaviors using machine learning. Your responsibilities will be centered around designing and building the next-generation robot platform used by the team for our research. Your projects will include designing, implementing and deploying infrastructure services and interfaces (mostly in Python), real-time controllers (mostly in C++), diagnostics and calibration tooling, and custom firmware.
We look for a track record of the following
* Experience designing, implementing, and shipping production code (not necessarily related to robotics).
* Willingness to debug problems across the stack, such as networking issues, kernel configuration, latency spikes, or memory leaks
* Experience developing and/or deploying real-time control systems for robot systems
You might be a good fit if you
* Know your way around a Unix shell
* Are self-directed and enjoy designing great interfaces and abstractions
* Own problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done
* Are detail oriented, and like to get the system working but know when to cut corners versus getting it exactly right
In this role, you will work on a team with other software engineers and machine learning researchers to identify, plan, and implement features that accelerate the team's common goals.
