Job Description

Altair Engineering is looking for a candidate with a strong background in structural mechanics, mathematics and programming to join the dynamic and successful OptiStruct development team. The candidate will be involved in OptiStruct software development, mainly in the structural dynamics and acoustics domain. The target applications include those in the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) arena widely used in the automotive industry, so some familiarity in this field is highly desirable. The nature of the tasks necessitates a candidate with Masters or PhD in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace engineering with strong knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in structural dynamics.

Altair OptiStruct is a general finite element code with comprehensive solutions for linear and nonlinear statics, buckling, eigenvalue analysis, NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), thermal analysis and fatigue.

NVH is an important industry vertical to predict noise, vibration and harshness that is widely used in the automotive industry. Based on structural dynamics and acoustics, NVH simulations utilize eigenvalue analysis, frequency response analysis and transient analysis to calculate sound pressure levels, point mobility, transfer path analysis etc. NVH requires strong fundamentals and advanced knowledge in FEA, eigenvalue analysis, direct and modal FRF, direct and modal transient analyses, various types of damping, modal participation and energy calculations etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:

* To develop and validate algorithms that support simulations towards direct and modal dynamic analysis in frequency as well as time domain.
* To derive necessary mathematical formulations mainly in Finite Element Method (FEM).
* Must be able to program with Fortran and C++
* Work with a large code on a daily basis.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
* Ability to work in small teams with little or no supervision is a must
* Follow an established process that ensures uninterrupted workflow for all members of the development team.

Skills:

* Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
* Generalized eigenvalue analysis
* Structural dynamics
* Frequency response and transient analyses
* Programming knowledge with Fortran and C++.
* Familiarity with Linux.
* Ability to handle large code
* Knowledge of acoustic and multi-physics simulation is a plus
* Experience with NVH analysis, design optimization, HyperMesh, Optistruct, or other CAE products preferred

Required:

* MS or PhD in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering
* Programming experience
