The Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) team is a cross-discipline team that takes a systematic view on solution development and architecture for World-Wide AGV systems within Amazon Robotics / Advanced Technologies. The team is comprised of highly experienced and innovative Mechatronics Engineers with proven success. The team participates in the definition of high-level functional and non-functional requirements, analyzes technical trade-offs, decomposes the major components and subsystems, and helps define the interfaces, collaborations, and dependencies between them. In cooperation / partnership with the Solution and Product Management, Deployment, Software, Engineering, and other teams, the AGV team plays a critical role to align teams in a common technical direction toward a strategic vision and roadmap for Amazon Robotics AGV solution development.

Amazon AGV (Automatic Guided Vehicle) team is seeking Software Engineers who are fascinated by solving real world fulfillment challenges at Amazon scale. You'll be a key member of a highly experienced and innovative Mechatronics engineering team that designs, prototypes, builds, integrates, tests, launches and runs automated guided vehicle applications throughout Amazon's fulfillment centers. Amazon WW Robotics and the AGV Team are seeking a key member of AGV team responsible for AGV onboard software (firmware) development including requirement management, software architecture, software design and validation by working with internal cross-functional teams and external vendors / partners. This role requires strong software engineering experience with specific expertise in Automation, Mobility, and Software development.

This is an early stage initiative with a fast paced, highly collaborative start up like environment inside Amazon. To be successful you need to be flexible and entrepreneurial. You are a true owner - you are hands on and you lead by example. You develop software to direct physical machines and make them work more efficiently. You partner with hardware engineers, solution designers, applied scientists, and project managers effectively. You acquire expertise as needed, iterate and adapt your approach as you learn more. You create extendable design and easy to maintain technical solution with the long-term vision in mind.

Core responsibilities:

* Participate in the planning, definition, and high-level design of a business problem and explore solution alternatives.
* Coordination of the software complexities of the integrated systems of an AGV System (hardware, sensors, processes, racking, conveyor, wireless, safety, load handling, load locating, etc.)
* Participate in the development of advanced software around sensors, safety, object detection, navigation / guidance, motion control, and load handling / detection.
* Analyze cost and performance of a solution and evaluate tradeoffs.
* Establish non-functional requirements (security, reliability, maintainability, usability, etc.) at the solution level

Participate in the analysis of system-level failure modes and effects (FMEA), and system-level hazards; assess technical risks and define mitigations
