Job Description

The Flatiron School is seeking a software engineer to get in on the ground level of its new data team and help create an analysis-friendly data ecosystem. You will work on a team of data scientists and other software engineers to supply the entire organization with invaluable data-backed insights. Accomplishing this will require achieving a deep understanding of the organization's business operations as well as mastering many different technologies, systems, and code bases. We're not looking for someone to pump out one transformation script after another, we need an experienced engineer comfortable with ambiguity and adept at solving problems with technology who will help us evolve our data engineering practices.

What You'll Do

* Assemble and maintain pristine data sets trusted and relied upon by every member of the organization for mission critical decision making.


* Evolve our data pipeline and analytics infrastructure.


* Collaborate on development of Flatiron School's educational platform.


* Drive best practices for data across the organization.



A successful candidate is/has

* 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.


* Experience with backend web application development, data modeling, and devops.


* Proficiency in SQL and a scripting language


* A strong desire to grow as a data engineering specialist.


* Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and working autonomously.


* Comfortable working cross-functionally with non-technical stakeholders.



Bonus points for experience with

* AWS


* Looker and Tableau


* Marketo and Salesforce


* Infrastructural data technologies such as Redshift, Snowflake, Airflow, Luigi, Kafka, Kinesis, Hadoop, Spark, etc.


* Information security and compliance
