The Cloud Native Applications team is one of the leading innovation groups at VMware. Building and delivering cloud-native solutions for private, hybrid and public cloud, this VMware team brings extensive expertise for container networking, security, storage, operations and monitoring. VMware Cloud PKS is an enterprise-grade cloud service that provides creation and management of fleets of Kubernetes clusters in the public cloud. It provides cluster lifecycle, policy, security, and observability features on top of Kubernetes clusters.

Job Description and Scope of the Role

This engineer will focus on supporting VMware Cloud PKS and help us deliver awesome Kubernetes clusters. This engineer is expected to make significant, direct and high-quality contributions to the product by designing new functionality, writing code, and performing code reviews.

Responsibilities

* Design and develop VMware Cloud PKS
* Design and implement solutions which will be delivered at a high cadence to our cloud service.
* Write automated feature and regression tests as part of daily development.
* Play an active hands-on role across the entire software development life cycle, including helping to deliver your software into production and ensuring that it continues to operate as designed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess some of the following experience:

* Experience with Linux/Unix.
* Programming experience with Go, Java, C++, Python
* Understanding of distributed systems.
* Strong oral and written communication.
* Effective in working collaboratively in a team as well as independently.

VMware Enterprise PKS

VMware Enterprise PKS is chartered with making vSphere, our flagship Software Defined Datacenter platform, the best platform for enterprises to run containerized workloads using Kubernetes, Docker, Cloud Foundry and other emerging container technologies. The Enterprise PKS organization is seeking a highly motivated strong technical lead for the engineering team in Palo Alto.

Job Description and Scope of the Role

You will e part of a team of highly motivated engineers and deliver new innovations in a highly differentiated container management control plane. You are part of the PKS product team, responsible for a few PKS product components development, partnering closely with development managers, product owners, product managers, test developers. With this role's emphasis on test development, your proven software development background with experience in the successful delivery of high quality software projects will reflect in this role's day-to-day. Knowledge of Jenkins or concourse in conjunction with agile software development techniques, test driven development, and working in hybrid and innovative SDLC methodologies is ideal. If you are highly technical, detail oriented with focus on implementation excellence as well as have significant project management expertise in large scale commercial enterprise product development, this team and product is for you.

Required: Skills:

* Hands on experience with Kubernetes, Jenkins, concourse
* BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical fields and 5+ years of related experience in the software industry
* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
* Experience working across multiple geographical locations
* Knowledge of multiple software lifecycle methodologies including Agile and Waterfall
* Experience in scalable distributed systems in Go, C++, or Java
* Foster innovative environment with peers and staff
* Ability to discuss and provide architectural and technical guidance to a team of highly skilled engineers

Preferred Skills:

* Experience in using vSphere and/or Virtual Center products, GCP, AWS, Azure
* Experience in delivering SaaS solutions
* Experience in using or delivering Cloud based services
* Knowledge of performance analysis and distributed systems
* Experience with Continuous Integration processes
* Customer/partners facing experience
