We're looking for an experienced software engineer to be part of Amazon's famous Customer Reviews and Star Ratings team. Customer Reviews is one of the world's largest community driven products and a hallmark of Amazon's retail website. This feature is a tremendously visible aspect of Amazon's brand and competitive advantage. We materially impact dozens of Amazon's retail businesses and are considered a tier-1 critical feature for the company.

Our features and designs have inspired many others, but we are relentlessly maintaining our lead in innovation by creating features that will help millions of customers make online shopping decisions. We strive to build the most delightful user experiences possible using Amazon's highly scalable distributed systems and applying the latest techniques in data mining, predictive modeling, and natural language processing to our massive reviews corpus.

Coding ninjas with strong object oriented design skills, in-depth knowledge of web protocols (HTTP/XML/REST), and distributed system architectures based on service oriented architecture are needed for us to fearlessly test new ideas and rapidly iterate on technical solutions. Customer reviews wants a teammate that can lead and mentor junior engineers and consults product owners.

Together we can change the way that shoppers discover and evaluate products online. As a team, we will define features and our overall product roadmap. You will be a technical leader who owns core services and user applications, drive system architecture, and establish sound software development practices. Beyond writing code, participating in code reviews, and creating documentation, you will also get to dive deep into customer contributed data and system operational metrics to identify areas of improvement.

Some technologies and problem spaces we'll be working on:

INTUITIVE WEB AND MOBILE APPLICATIONS - We will extend ways for Amazon customers to share their thoughts about purchases through ratings, reviews, and votes. Based on the wealth of this community-contributed data, we will reduce guesswork from making shopping decisions online. We will achieve these goals by building intuitive and responsive applications for the web, tablets, and phones. We obsess on identifying new ways for tailoring user experiences to customer needs and preferences.

HIGHLY SCALABLE DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS - Amazon's data has billions of records for a mind-boggling variety of products and millions of customers in multiple countries. We will leverage Amazon's cloud infrastructure to build systems and design algorithms that are able to handle these large amounts of data. Where traditional solutions fail, we develop approximate, distributed, and streaming algorithms.

DATA MINING AND NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING - We will use the latest machine learning and predictive modeling technologies to extract information valuable to shoppers. We will look for patterns, train thousands of models, and summarize data to gain insights about customer product needs and experiences. We continually evaluate the effectiveness of our solutions and ways to improve them.
