Job Description

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products/services/processes, frequently operating at the leading edge of technology. Recommends and justifies major changes to existing products/services/processes. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 or more years of software engineering or related experience.

Department Description

The Modeling, Simulation, and Optimization Department in Oracle Labs performs internal consulting and research in modeling, simulation, optimization, and analysis of computer system architectures, data bases, and applications. We define new architectures and algorithms that improve performance, optimize resource allocation and utilization, and automatically optimize parameter settings. We work on a wide variety of projects such as energy-efficient server and storage system scheduling, optimal cache replacement and cache size adjustment algorithms, thread scheduling algorithms, dynamic data base parameter setting, dynamic pricing algorithms, cloud resource allocation, data clustering algorithms, load balancing and visualization of primary and backup processes, and compute architecture and performance models.

The Modeling, Simulation, and Optimization Department currently has an open position for a mathematical optimization expert.

Position Description

The successful candidate will collaborate with other Oracle groups providing internal consulting and developing technology for Oracle software products including:

* Price optimization
* Logistics and scheduling
* Predictive analytics and parameter estimation

Job Requirements

We seek an individual with the following:

* Background in Revenue and Logistics Management
* Expert-level knowledge of combinatorial optimization techniques including mixed-integer programming
* Strong knowledge of Machine Learning
* Experience working with large real-world data sets
* Ability to define and structure an approach to loosely-defined problems
* Excellent coding skills using Python and Java
* Experience with relational databases and SQL

MS in Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is required; a PhD is preferred. The candidate is expected to have 10 or more years of experience, along with a publication record and/or patent portfolio.
