Responsibilities

The Aerospace Corporation's Network Systems Department (NSD) is seeking an experienced Sr. Space Network and Communications Systems Engineer/Architect specializing in architecture definition, development, and analysis of future space network architectures. You will be leading cross-functioning engineering teams to support the development of future space network concepts, CONOP, architectures, requirements, prototyping, and technology demonstrations. You will play a vital role in leading technical teams and providing subject matter technical expertise in the areas of Space Communication and Network systems to ensure mission objectives are achieved. A qualified candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of the latest space networking technologies; ability to develop space combat cloud concepts and networking solutions; ability to analyze network protocols and performance; support assessment of new network engineering concepts and technologies; and provide space network systems engineering leadership to the program office. You will play a vital role in leading technical teams and providing subject technical expertise in the areas of Communication and Network systems to insure mission objectives are achieved.

Key Functions

* Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the development and analysis of future space/satellite network architectures and requirements
* Lead various systems engineering tasks and projects through systems architecture definition, development, analysis, modeling & simulation, and prototype development/validation
* Evaluate and develop multiple access communications or engineering technologies
* Analyze and simulate complex network architectures and protocols
* Evaluate mesh communications systems and consider techniques for creating or enhancing Low Probability of Intercept/Low Probability of Detection (LPI/LPD) performance
* Provide independent technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to less experienced staff
* Coordinate tasks and participate in technical meetings for SMC, NRO, and Civil & Commercial customers working closely with members of a diverse team comprising military officers and Government civilians, prime contractors, SE&I contractors, and other FFRDCs
* Lead specialized technical studies and internal research and development (IR&D) projects to develop the next generation of Space and Ground network concepts, architectures, and technologies
* Support sustainment and development of core network simulation, emulation, and modeling capabilities
* Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers
* Identify and develop new business opportunities with new and existing customers

Qualifications

Required

* Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related discipline
* Minimum 12 years of experience in space-based network system design and development
* Expert in Satellite and Ground network systems, network protocols, network security, and network/mission management systems
* Experience with systems engineering support in space and ground network systems
* Experience with and strong understanding of physical/MAC layers and satellite networks
* Strong understanding of mobile ad-hoc network protocols, wireless communication standards and protocols, and routing algorithms
* Experience with using IP routing protocols, including TCP/IP, IPsec, and IPv4/6
* Experience in Python, Matlab, and C/C++
* Excellent verbal and written English language skills, effective communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments
* Ability to present results effectively in briefings and technical reports
* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SSBI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain this level of security clearance

Preferred

* Advanced technical degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university
* Minimum 15 years of experience in network systems design, development, integration, deployment, and troubleshooting
* Network modeling and simulation experience in OPNET, QualNet/EXata, or other Open Source simulation tools (e.g. NS3)
* Experience with inter-satellite cross-links and laser communication technologies
* Project development experience and demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
* Current and active TS/SSBI
