Ideal candidates will want to design and deliver robust infrastructure and applications that manage large scale genomic data pipelines. We are seeking a talented and motivated software engineer to join our team to chart this new course in genomics. We are a core part of the Broad Institute, a deeply collaborative scientific institution that is transforming medicine and human health by building software solutions to process and analyze scientific data on an unprecedented scale. You will be on a team that works with international collaborations, which may include some opportunities to travel. No medical, genomics, or scientific background is required, just an enthusiasm to improve the world of science and medicine, an ability to deliver exceptional software and services, and the ability to collaborate with scientists.

We are seeking a skilled engineer to support the creation of infrastructure and services that host and enable pipelines that generate data for their scientific communities.

You enjoy working in a collaborative, team-based setting and connecting with people at other institutions around the world. You are able to commit to your work yet reach out for support to deliver working software. You enjoy solving complicated problems and appreciate effective software development practices. You have good attention to detail and take pride in the software produced. You are interested to learn about sequencing, genomics and the scientific work of the Broad Institute. You are excited about engaging scientists.

Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field


* 5 to 10 years of Software Development experience is preferred, though exceptional candidates with less will be considered.


* Experience delivering clear, maintainable, and well-tested software in a timely manner


* Experience or interest in working with a wide variety of technologies and diverse problems.


* Experience working with users to develop and document requirements.


* Comfortable communicating technological concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike


* Excellent communication skills with experience mentoring developers and influencing technical strategy



Any of the following is a plus:

* Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g., GCP, AWS.).
* Familiarity with big data processing pipelines (e.g., Google Pipelines API, WDL, CWL, Docker).
* Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems.
* Experience working in Unix/Linux environments, including basic shell scripting.
* Experience with a typed programming language (e.g., Java or C++) and a dynamic language such as Python.
