As part of the Wolters Kluwer Health Clinical Effectiveness team and based in the heart of Chicago, this role is critical to building and developing a leading patient engagement product portfolio for a top global healthcare technology company.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Wolters Kluwer Health, an established fast-growing and innovation-driven healthcare information technology company working on the front lines of clinical care, in the role of a Software Developer. Reporting into our SWAT Development Manager, you will play an important role in our efforts to build and maintain our applications. The Software Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, enhancing and extending several mission critical Java-based applications. This is a tremendous opportunity for someone with a passion for development to help transform the core technology of a leading healthcare information technology company.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

Responsibilities:

* Maintain, enhance, and extend several critical applications.
* Plan and execute development-related tasks within an Agile/Scrum environment.
* Work with the Engineering team, developers, Product Owners, and other team members to gain a comprehensive understanding of existing products and features.
* Be conversant with roadmap plans for new functionality to help guide decisions, consistency, and opportunities for re-use.
* Remain current with evolving industry trends and technologies.
* Solve analytical problems both independently and with peers as the situation requires.
* Systematically troubleshoot production issues and delivers timely resolutions.
* Work on multiple tasks, make commitments, and deliver within agreed upon timeframe.
* Participate in all relevant meetings: development meetings, project team meetings, issue management meetings, and others as assigned.
* Follow best practices and standards for coding.

Job Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent field

Experience:

* 8+ years of software development experience are required, with 2+ years' experience at a senior engineer level are required.
* Strong Java programming skills.
* Strong knowledge of SQL
* Deep experience with multiple server-side Java development technologies and tools such as JEE, servlets, Spring, Jersey, JDBC, MyBatis, XML, JSON, JMS, ActiveMQ, Apache web server, Tomcat, JBoss.
* Knowledge of common design patterns, design principles and industry best practices.
* Working knowledge of SOA or micro-service architectures
* Experience using HTML/CSS/JavaScript to implement modular, high performance, and functional user interfaces.
* Experience with AngularJS or other JavaScript frameworks
* Experience with API design and SOAP/REST principles
* Experience with automated unit and integration testing.
* Knowledge of common design patterns, design principles and industry best practices.
* Experience with SDLC tools like Rally, GIT, Eclipse, IntelliJ, and Maven.
* Strong collaboration skills, within function and across peer stakeholders, and desire to work in a highly collaborative environment.
* Excellent and effective interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and listening), with ability to build positive working relationships across multiple groups within the organization.
* Good judgment, strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and a finely tuned balance of technical purity and pragmatism.
* Committed, engaged, self-motivated, decisive, adaptable, data driven, transparent and objective.

Travel requirements
