Thomson Reuters Direct Tax Compliance software is relied upon by the largest multi-national corporations and global accounting firms for theirs and their clients' income tax filings. Our vision is to create the next generation of tax and accounting software, including an API-First approach that emphases our ability to integrate. If you are passionate about complex, highly scalable software systems using built using microservices and Event Sourcing, then we may have the perfect job for you! We seek to add a talented, result oriented and innovative software engineer to our team who will take this vision and help bring it to life.

This strategy is heavily reliant upon open-source software, including Java, Scala, JavaScript, Kafka and .NET Core. Additionally, we're constantly evaluating new software projects and need someone who loves to remain current on these ever-evolving trends and capabilities. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on systems supporting hundreds of millions of tax calculations a day and work with us on the transition to an event-driven architecture in which these calculations will drive updates to our real-time search and analytics platforms.

Key Expectations

* Build the vision. You are extremely passionate about stream processing, distributed computing and container-based computing. You are a craftsman in addition to being an engineer and take pride in writing elegant, extensible code. You are laser focused on delivery in order to generate frequent feedback loops and iterations.
* Ability to balance legacy demands with future vision. Thomson Reuters is an established leader in the tax compliance market place, with a long history and lots of legacy code. So, while our ambitions are very much focused on the future, we need someone who possesses the patience and tolerance necessary to maintain existing systems and methods while working feverishly to construct the new. While we have traditionally hosted our services internally, we are migrating to public cloud infrastructure. We need your partnership in moving this transformation forward.
* Thinking in terms of computing at scale. You instinctively design and construct elastic, fault-tolerant, high-performance, scalable systems, that are cloud native.

* Engineering Excellence. You have at least five years of experience in a variety of contexts during which you've contributed to the construction of scalable, extensible software solutions and systems. You understand technology and possess a passion for excellence.

Qualifications

* Five or more years' experience in a software engineering environment.
* Strong SQL composition skills using either PL/SQL or T-SQL. Some NoSQL understanding and experience, with a preference for HBase or Cassandra.
* Deep experience programming in Java or C#, with Scala being highly desired. You will need to have both strong object-oriented and functional programming design and development skills.. Some or all of this experience should include the use of Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/D) principles, with a strong preference for use of Gang Of Four (GoF) design patterns, Fowler Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture (P of EAA) and application frameworks such as Spring.
* Knowledge of CI/CD/DevOps concept and tools. Ability to define your environment using tools such as Ansible and AWS Cloud Formation.
* Whether via face-to-face discussion, phone, email, chat, white-boarding, or other collaboration platforms, you must be an effective communicator who can inform, explain, enable, teach, persuade, coordinate, etc.
* Willingness to learn and support our legacy codebase while the transition to our next-generation is occurring.
* Experience with elastically scalable, fault-tolerant and cloud-aware applications and software patterns, with strong preference for experience with AWS or Azure, specifically
* Ability to build and deliver hands-on technology proof-of-concepts and demonstrations
* Experience working in Agile/Scrum team environments
* Results oriented. Detailed oriented. Driven. Take initiative without being asked.
* Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree helpful but not essential.
