Job summary

The Red Hat Quality Engineering (QE) team is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will participate in test and product planning processes with globally distributed QE team associates, creating test plans and researching new features while constantly learning new technologies. You'll also conduct new feature research, design test cases, write code for new features, as well as debug, test, and troubleshoot new internal tools. As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will also cooperate with open source communities, offering your guidance and assistance related to Red Hat's offerings.

Primary job responsibilities

* Participate in test and product planning processes with globally distributed QE team associates
* Write code for new features and fix bugs for the internal frameworks and for open source tools
* Conduct new feature research and design test cases
* Develop automation framework and scripts with languages like shell script, C++, Golang, and Python
* Carry out manual tests and deliver clear status for testing areas in a timely manner
* Document and advocate for the resolution of new bugs with developers and communicate the impact on customers to developers and support specialists
* Test, debug, and troubleshoot new versions of internal tools
* Constantly learn new things and maintain an overview of current technologies
* Conduct code reviews and provide assistance to other team members and to the Istio open source community
* Participate and engage with open source communities related to Red Hat's offerings

Required skills

* U.S. bachelor's degree or a foreign equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline
* Five (5) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role that required software releasing and testing
* Must have at least three (3) years of experience on a Linux platform at the system administrator level
* One (1) year of experience with containers, containers orchestration, or Kubernetes

Three (3) years of experience with:

* software testing at the component, integration, and system testing levels
* developing automation scripts with testing frameworks and libraries like pytests, gotest, and unittest
* configuration management tools like Red Hat Ansible Automation or Puppet
* working with globally distributed software engineering team members and communicating status effectively across regions
* engaging and working with open source communities and open source projects
* programming languages like shell script, C++, Python, or Golang
* software building tools like make or bazel
* testing methodologies as defined in the ISTQB foundation level
* managing and using cloud systems in testing environments like Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Rackspace, Red Hat OpenShift, Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud
* issue tracking tools like GitHub, Bugzilla, or Jira
* continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) tools, including Jenkins
* and code management processes, including reviews, branch, and release management with tools including Git
