The Product, Engineering and Design team - fondly known as PED - builds the tools that power AltSchool's education in classrooms across the US. Senior QA Engineer

Description

As a QA Engineer, you have the opportunity to accelerate the delivery and to improve the quality of AltSchool products. You will be responsible for direct hands-on testing of every aspect of the AltSchool technology platform. You will have the opportunity to implement and utilize test infrastructure. You will be part of an Engineering team that is working on problems in a number of areas, including performance optimizations, content delivery, network protocols, security, storage, search, analytics, mobile products and proprietary hardware.

Your focus is becoming an expert in the entire technology platform so you can effectively test changes and enhancements quickly and efficiently, detecting bugs before they are found by end users. Your job is to enhance the quality of the delivered product so end users have a delightful experience interacting with our systems.

QA Engineers are focused on improving functional development as well as application performance on web and mobile platforms. Responsibilities

* Help drive our vision to build a ground up educational platform
* Oversee and perform the testing of mobile applications from initial concept through planning, implementation, and release on a rapid release cycle
* Thoroughly test all aspects of desktop and mobile web client/server applications, file bug reports for issues you find, and verify fixes in the product once they are made
* Reporting on the status of your testing and on the overall quality of the product on a regular basis
* Working closely with engineers, other qa engineers, designers and product team members on each product release
* Providing support on issues that come in from end users when needed
* Propose and implement enhancements to the testing processes, including process enhancement, tool development, and automation infrastructure

Qualifications

* B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
* 4+ years experience creating and executing manual black box tests for complex applications
* Understanding of browser and device-specific issues and cross-browser testing
* Website and web application testing experience on desktop and mobile platforms
* Experience developing test plans and test cases from functional specifications
* Ability to find meaningful bugs during exploratory, ad-hoc testing as well as when following documented test cases
* Self-motivated and results oriented
* Passionate about quality, eager to learn new products and platforms
* Excellent communication skills
* Team player

Preferred Qualifications

* Database experience, writing SQL queries, checking back-end data, etc.
* Python coding experience
* Experience with other scripting or programming languages
* Implemented and/or Utilized testing tools or automation frameworks to perform testing
* Experience with JIRA
* Experience with git or GitHub
