Job Function

The successful candidate will work in a team of senior engineers responsible for engineering and supporting the firm's Linux desktop estate. The candidate should be self-driven, experienced Linux enthusiast motivated to continuously learn, improve, and collaborate with talented engineers and developers in a global team to provide the highest levels of service and innovation.

Principle Responsibilities

* Provide engineering and operational support for Linux Desktops on physical and virtual platforms globally
* Cultivate and manage strong relationships with trading teams
* Provide technical guidance to other engineers and drive strategic projects and initiatives
* Act as an escalation point for Linux related issues
* Collaborate with team members globally to continuously improve systems and processes
* Help cultivate the highest standards in systems engineering, automation, and development
* Produce well-structured and comprehensive technical documentation
* Collaborate with customers to solve problems and improve their experience
* Participate in performance analysis, proactive troubleshooting, and capacity planning
* Actively participate in outage incidents, perform root-cause analysis and identify opportunities to reduce risk

Core Qualifications/Skills

* Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Math or Engineering), or equivalent work experience
* 8+ years' experience in the Linux desktop space is required
* Proven experience architecting and delivering Linux solutions in a modern DevOps community
* Automation of Linux Desktop provisioning infrastructure for build & test environments
* Automated Linux deployment and config management (iPXE, Kickstart, Cobbler, YUM/RPM, etc.)
* Configuration Management tools (Ansible, CFEngine, Chef, Puppet, etc.)
* In-depth knowledge of Linux systems and distributions, specifically Red Hat/CentOS 6/7
* Strong script/coding skills (two or more of: bash, Perl, python, ruby, C/C++, JavaScript)
* Ability to deliver cross platform solutions integrating both Linux and Windows environments
* Proven delivery of high performing User Experience and consistent UI with Linux Desktops
* Strong source code management and collaboration skills (Git, GitHub, Gerrit)
* Troubleshooting low-level Linux functional and performance related problems
* Tuning Linux system parameters for high performance
* Continuous Integration tools (Jenkins/Teamcity)
* Container systems (Kubernetes, Docker, rkt, LXC, etc.)
* Network and cluster file systems (NFS, GPFS, etc.)
* Experience configuring Linux desktop environments (GNOME, MATE, KDE, etc.) and the X11 subsystem.
* Experience configuring high fidelity audio/video components (Nvidia, 4K, multi-monitor, etc.)
* Experience configuring secure desktop environments (physical security, encryption, etc.)
* Experience configuring Linux remote desktop solutions (RDP, NX, VNC, Exceed, etc.)
* Working knowledge of Windows desktop products and services.
* Self-driven and highly motivated with a desire to continuously learn and improve
* Naturally collaborative, inclusive and team oriented
* Desire to fully understand people's needs and go the extra mile to help them
* Attention to detail, ability to identify the right balance between the perfect/practical solution
* Ability to decompose complex issues/requirements, add clarity and produce timely results
* Systematic and iterative approach to analyzing and improving systems and processes
* Algorithmic approach to solving problems and devising creative solutions
* 10+ years working in a related financial institution

Bonus Skills

* Experience managing and supporting macOS devices in a development environment
* Messaging systems (0mq, RabbitMQ, Tibco TMA, Solace, Apache Kafka, etc.)
* Database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, RRDtool, Influx DB, etc.)
* AWS, vSphere, XenServer and Hyper-V integration experience
* Low-latency systems and market connectivity
