SAIC is seeking a Senior Flight Software Engineer on the OMES II contract in support of the Restore-L program in the Satellite Servicing Projects Division (SSPD) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This position is located in Greenbelt, MD.

The Restore-L mission is a Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Satellite Servicing Project Division (SSPD) managed mission. Restore-L is a robotic servicing mission designed to refuel a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. It contains 3 elements: the Flight Element comprised of the Restore-L Servicing Vehicle (RSV) and development testbeds, the Ground Element comprised of the systems required to conduct RSV operations and the supporting networks and facilities, and the Launch Element comprised of the Launch Vehicle and supporting facilities and services. The SSPD is responsible for the design, engineering, development, test and operations of the Restore-L Mission through an integrated team at GSFC. The Servicing Payload design, development and RSV integration will be conducted at GSFC.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Flight Software Engineer will provide software support for the Restore-L Hybrid Flight Computing Subsystem.

Job duties include:

* Define software architectures, requirements, solutions and development environments for terrestrial and space robotic servicing systems.
* Develop software components and algorithms for spacecraft servicing systems.
* Work with other engineers and scientists to design, develop, integrate and test related systems and software components.
* Develop critical flight software in C/C++ on MicroBlaze, PowerPC e500v2, and x86-64 architectures
* Optimize and implement image processing and machine vision algorithms
* Accelerate algorithms using FPGAs
* Develop flight applications for VxWorks using CFE/CFS and OSAL
* Develop drivers to interface with FPGAs (Xilinx Virtex-5) via PCIe and sRIO - - Develop ground tools in Python for data analysis, image conversion, etc.
* Lead Security and Reliability Group (SRG) in charge of code review, static analysis tool (CodeSonar), and secure embedded coding
* Develop mission-level C/C++ Flight Coding Standards
* Create and deliver technical presentations to support the design and development of software systems, including requirement and design reviews.
* Develop workstation software tools
* Develop distributed scientific simulations

JOB DESCRIPTION: Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs application software. Conducts analysis and collaborates with subject matter experts in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for information storage, processing, presentation, manipulation, display, or reporting. End product may be special use, customized, or commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, web applications, scripts, and utility programs. Ensures software standards are met. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content. Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee). Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet outlined objectives. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Work is reviewed by management to measure whether objectives have been met. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives. FREEDOM TO ACT: Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Demonstrates good judment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. IMPACT: Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources. LIASON: Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of directly applicable experience
* Must be able to pass a Government background investigation
* Hands-on experience with embedded software development
* Experience with standard best practice software development lifecycle
* Excellent programming knowledge
* Experience with VxWorks, FreeRTOS, and embedded Linux
* Working understanding of the Agile software development lifecycle.
* Experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle - gathering requirements, design, implementation, testing, debugging, and deployment to the end user
* Ability to assess new APIs and tools for software development.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

* Experience with software development for real-time systems
* Experience with software development for ground and space-based applications
* Experience with NASA mission lifecycle and review cycle (design reviews, requirements reviews, integration reviews, trade studies, etc.)
