Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineering Manager to join the Digital Help & Experience team. Your team's efforts are part of the digital transformation of the company, delivering direct online engagement with our customers, providing new ways to do business online, reliably and at scale.

You will lead the engineering responsibilities for a portfolio of customer-facing services that provide help, learning, support, community and customer service to Autodesk customers globally. We're looking for someone with solid, diverse experience in customer-facing digital technologies who enjoys engineering leadership but could be hands-on in a pinch. Primarily we run open source on AWS, but we have a few commercial technologies in the mix. The job requires collaborative partnership with product management and experience design in pursuit of optimal customer experience. The successful candidate will manage and lead a team of diverse, smart, and driven engineers while balancing the challenges of creating scalable, resilient and reliable but engaging customer experiences with complex business requirements.

Responsibilities

* Own your team's technical strategy and roadmap in close collaboration with architects, other managers, product management and experience designers
* Work with your team to help understand requirements, evaluate new features and architecture and help drive decisions
* Constantly remove impediments to your team's progress and help your team to be successful at releasing quality software often and with confidence
* Build collaborative partnerships with software architects, technical leads, key individuals within other functional organizations as well as other engineering teams
* Build and foster high performance culture, mentor team members
* Familiarity with agile practices
* Lead development and adoption of automated test suites

Minimum Qualifications

* 5-10 years of experience managing engineering teams building customer-facing online experiences
* Successfully managed teams who have built and run a large/distributed web applications or desktop applications that are used by many customers
* Proven ability to manage and resolve complex and ambiguous issues and business challenges; Ability to provide examples of such
* You have built high performing engineering teams with diverse skillset, attracting good talent
* You have demonstrated experience in adapting and improving engineering best practices (e.g. test driven development, continuous delivery, scrum practices, automation, Maintainable and testable code etc.)
* Ability to multi-task and context switch as a daily requirement of the position
* Expert experience with Scrum and agile development processes and methodologies
* You have past experience doing hands-on work in at least one discipline of backend systems, distributed systems, mobile/client/desktop engineering
* Have excellent communication skills and can demonstrate having collaborated with tech leads and senior engineers, product owners, designers
* Experience collaborating with international teams
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience, Master's degree preferred

Preferred Qualifications

* 10-15 years of experience managing engineering teams
* Experience with Amazon Web Services (i.e. EC2, S3, RDS, CloudFront, CloudWatch, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc.)
* Understanding of PCI compliance and security best practices
* Production React experience
* Familiarity with responsive web design
* Content delivery network (CDN) experience a plus
