The Sr. Manager will manage the Catalog & Browse team with responsibility for new eCommerce features on JCP.com. This position will be leading a team of software engineers in delivery roles that support the needs of customer facing eCommerce for JCP.com across channels.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep understanding and hands on experience in software development and architecting / building highly scalable eCommerce systems. You will be expected to improve team agility through coaching and implementing best practices for development, automated testing, automated deployment, etc. Need to have an attitude that embraces Agile practices and automation. You will need enough technical depth to conduct code reviews and defend your opinions about software development practices. We are not looking for a hands-off manager.

Successful candidate will have a background in developing customer facing experiences, strong technical ability, excellent project management and organizational skills, great communication skills, a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate will work together with the Product Owners to plan and execute projects, ensure that teams have appropriate requirements, direction, and resources to deliver effectively. Be responsible for overall soundness of designs by pulling ideas from the team and mediating architecture decisions. Help software engineers resolve both technical problems as well as human resources issues. Provide guidance & coaching to motivate, and lead team members (direct reports) to their optimum performance levels and career development.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Lead a team of software engineers focused on a functional area of JCPenney's customer facing eCommerce in technical architecture, design, development and delivery
* Collaborate with the architecture, business, infrastructure & operations teams to contribute to development of the eCommerce eco-system roadmap
* Ensure extensibility, supportability, performance & scalability of the ecommerce platform
* Direct and participate in cross-functional delivery of large-scale, complex projects often involving multiple internal and external teams
* Plan and manage scope to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed upon time, cost and quality
* Validate financial forecasts and provide ongoing reconciliation of resources and project costs
* Oversee software development efforts, engaging in code review and architectural choices as necessary
* Manage, coach, and develop the analytical and technical skills of team members
* Lead others to work effectively in a strong customer service/team oriented environment

Core Competencies & Accomplishments:

* Prior success leading the development of customer facing retail ecommerce solutions is required
* Retail ecommerce experience required.
* Depth of knowledge in ecommerce systems and the related eco-system
* Exceptional technical and non-technical presentation and communication skills
* Proven ability to lead a team of highly technical software engineering staff and earn trust of team members and stakeholders
* Proven knowledge of application development lifecycle and project management discipline
* Significant technical experience as software developer, software development manager, or related role
* Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
