A day in the life...

* As a Senior Engineer in the Transaction Services team, you are part of the team that designs, builds, and operates the real time services, data store, and applications for all of Nordstrom's sales transactions across all its channels.
* This system is a large scale, real-time data processing pipeline with high availability, throughput and accuracy requirements and processes over million transactions per day during peak shopping season. It is also the system of record for all sales transactions for use by other teams in the operations of the company.
* The system is in the middle of modernization by moving to the cloud, and you will be part of this exciting re-architecture effort.
* Your customers will be a large number of teams across the company, and you will lead interactions with these teams on the modernization work, as well as other business projects involving our team.
* You will scope, estimate and design features, and work with other engineers on the team to implement them.
* You will develop and advocate good operational practices including telemetry, so we can have healthy services and a healthy work-life balance in the team.
* You will be a strong mentor to engineers in the team, and the bigger organization.
* You will contribute to developing good engineering standards at Nordstrom.
* You will help come up with future roadmap/vision and NorthStar architectures for our problem area.

You own this if you...

* BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant experience designing and implementing medium to large components of distributed systems using cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
* 3 years of experience operating high availability web services in a 24X7 support model; Experience with perf/stress testing such services.
* Ability to quickly write lots of high quality code.
* Should have good understanding of fundamentals - data structures, algorithms, programming languages (one of Java, C#, C++).
* Have experience hiring, mentoring, coaching engineers.
* Experience building web-applications, and experience with web application frameworks (React, jQuery etc) a plus.
* Have worked using agile, iterative development methodologies; Continuous integration/deployment tools.
