Senior Design Technologist - Company Experience

Job Description

The Company Experience team needs a Senior Design Technologist to collaborate with Product Design and Engineering to create the next version of our product to issue, manage and transact equity. The Senior Design Technologist is in charge of translating mocks to interactive prototypes, leveraging our Ink Design System and building new components to create the features and pages the product will need to serve customers.

A Design Technologist at Carta merges design and engineering skills to create interactive prototypes, develop new components, ship production-ready code and user interfaces and evolve our Ink Design System. Design Technology uses product and customer insights to influence key design and UX decisions and supports those decisions with a technical approach using industry best-practices and the highest standards for HTML, CSS and Javascript.

Responsibilities

* Participate in conception and iteration of user interfaces, having the Ink Design System and optimal code solutions in mind.
* Bridge the gap between Product Design and Engineering, by coding front-end components and interactions, pushing code to production and reviewing PRs.
* Code interactive prototypes to enable testing concepts as early as possible.
* Participate in Design Reviews and make sure your team' solutions are in sync with other teams.
* Develop new components following the highest code standards and integrating them into Ink.
* Advocate for our Ink Design System. Articulate the benefits of a systematic approach and persuade Product Management, Product Design and Engineering to embrace it.
* Identify opportunities to scale the Ink Design System and actively participate in building the next components.
* Understand the constraints of the system. Leverage Ink for the 80% of UI/UX problems that are recurrent, and explore the modularity of the Design System to embrace the 20% uncharted territory.
* Participate in User Testing sessions and translate the needs of users into the design system.

Qualifications

* 5-8 years of product design experience, where you have been part Designer and part Engineer.
* You need to have great visual skills and user interface knowledge and at the same time be an expert at building high quality code.
* Have a deep knowledge of HTML, CSS, Sass using BEM notation, and React.
* Ability to code front-end components and interactions, pushing code to production and reviewing PRs.
* Navigate constraints and articulate trade offs to deliver the best possible solutions in a timely manner.
* Ability to integrate new components into the system and have a deep understanding of the connection between parts and how those affect the whole team.
