Job Description

THE CHALLENGE

At Eventbrite, we power an open platform that offers an opportunity for anyone to gather for their chosen purpose. As both an organization that cares about diversity of thought and a global platform that fosters a vibrant community, we are committed to providing a safe, well-lit environment for live experiences. The integrity of our platform is something we take very seriously. Our Content Policy team considers Eventbrite's values and our community in creating and enforcing the rules for how to responsibly use our services. As a self-service platform, it takes only minutes to create and publish an event. Our challenge includes ensuring that the events published comply with our rules, as well as proactively detecting events that do not. The experience begins the moment an event is created, and we strive to make sure every experience on or off our platform represents Eventbrite and our community.

THE TEAM

The Content Policy efforts are led jointly by the Legal department and the Data Analytics and Data Science group. The Content Policy Team creates, communicates, and enforces the rules for how our platform may be used by our event creators and consumers. We serve a crucial role in allowing our community to experience Eventbrite in a way that fosters trust, safety, diversity, and inclusiveness, and also internally managing certain legal and compliance risk associated with the Eventbrite platform. We utilize proactive and strategic content detection methods, and strive to scale our operations to become a best-in-class global content policy program.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst to help develop our detection program - solutions, processes, systems, and tools - in order to improve our internal, proactive flagging of potential risky content on the platform. You'll work with our policy and enforcement experts to understand all the nitty gritty details of what's working well, where we need to fill gaps, and to measure and analyze policy performance metrics. You'll also work with our data scientists and data engineers to develop models to detect risky content. You'll develop a solid understanding of the broad aspects of content policy and moderation and apply that knowledge to solve problems at the scale of Eventbrite. You'll leverage our in-house decisioning platform to automate and test enforcement rules. This role requires a strong analytical background, a strong development background, strong technical and non-technical communication skills, and an an interest in learning. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with our Risk data scientists and engineers, as well as utilize your strong critical thinking skills, to develop detection strategies that find the right needles in the haystack and do so scalably and efficiently.

YOU WILL

* Develop a deep understanding of Policy and Trust & Safety issues and how they affect Eventbrite and our community
* Lead the development of the reporting and analytics function for Content Policy to support effective decision-making and business needs
* Build and maintain operational metrics in order to monitor and analyze key performance indicators
* Collaborate with data scientists, operations specialists, and engineering to create and implement tools, rules, and new detection and prevention mechanisms in order to drive enforcement efficiency
* Design, write, test, and deploy decisioning rules to flag potentially bad content and automate enforcement
* Identify and report on trends in violations, user behavior, new content issues, shifts in prevalence, and patterns of abuse in order to inform changes or additions to operational staffing needs or content policies
* Proactively identify and evaluate content policy risks to our platform and drive solutions to help mitigate them

THE SKILL SET

* 3-5+ years professional experience in a data analytics role
* Skilled with SQL and the ability to use it to make sense out of messy data (>2 years)
* Strong in Python (>2 years)
* Experience with at least one data visualization tool (e.g. Tableau)
* Experience developing, tracking, and communicating metrics and KPIs
* Ability to work well in a highly collaborative team environment
* Ability to succinctly and accurately explain a complex solution to any audience
* Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
* The ability to manage multiple fast-moving and high-priority projects simultaneously
* Highly motivated/proactive; demonstrated passion for the work, our vision, and excitement to jump in
* A demonstrated ability to translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations

BONUS POINTS

* Understanding of big data processing technologies like spark, hive, or presto
* Practical experience in content moderation, trust & safety, risk, or related topics
* Experience with rules-based detection systems
