This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

The mission of the City of Boston Property Management Department (PMD) is to manage, maintain, repair, and provide security for the City's municipal buildings including City Hall and Faneuil Hall; to preserve the useful life of City facilities and reduce operating costs through effective preventative maintenance measures.

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Senior Computer Operator monitors the security alarm network in City buildings.

Responsibilities

* Monitors and programs the City's computer systems and network for security alarm operations.
* Operates a radio base station and telephones and other equipment necessary to report alarms in public buildings to proper authorities.
* Prepares appropriate departmental records in regards to work accomplished and significant events that occur during a shift.
* Operates equipment necessary to monitor security cameras and access control points and generates reports as required.
* Acts as the department link to the law enforcement agencies to assist in detecting and reporting possible crimes as required.
* Performs other tasks as assigned. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

* At least one (1) year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid experience in the operation of electronic equipment and peripheral equipment.
* A degree in computer science, information services or related field preferred.
* Certified by Commonwealth of Massachusetts in telecommunications preferred
* Knowledge of police central station dispatch operations preferred.
* Must be able to read, write and understand English language.
* Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
* Massachusetts Driver's License preferred.
* May be subject to CORI check.

Department operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Shifts are 7 am to 3 pm, 3 pm to 11 pm, and 11 pm to 7 am. Applicants must be available to work any shift. Shift availability will be discussed at time of interview. Shift opening is subject to change.
