Senior Back End Developer (freelance)

Job Description

Beyond is looking for a Senior Back End Developer to help build solutions for some of the web's most famous companies. As a senior member of our dev team, you'll take ownership on multiple concurrent projects and advise other developers on theirs to ensure we always deliver the highest quality code. You'll work collaboratively with other disciplines at Beyond, including design, research, strategy and product management. You'll also partner with outside technical teams to develop high-traffic, boundary-pushing applications. All our back-end developers are hands-on and write code across a variety of codebases and cloud platforms.

Key responsibilities

* Take ownership of back end development on multiple, concurrent projects
* Review briefs to identify risks, suggest improvements, and create a plan
* Architect scalable solutions that can securely deal with millions of users
* Employ development best practices and evangelize these practices to other team members
* Write clear and well-documented code that can be re-used
* Advise other team members on their work

Required skills & experience

* Advanced skills in Python and related technologies (e.g., Django, Wagatail, Django Template tags, filters, etc)
* Advanced skills across a range of cloud platforms, AppEngine and Google Cloud Platform especially
* Experience with static site creation
* Proven experience in Test Driven Development
* Advanced knowledge of developing secure software (e.g., OWASP)
* Advanced knowledge of version control best practices (git)
* Advanced understanding of OO and MVC patterns
* Advanced knowledge of CI and CD tools Google Cloud Build and Gitlab Pipelines
* Advanced knowledge of PHP and standard LAMP architectures
* Advanced NoSQL knowledge
* Experience with Google Cloud Services and APIs
* Experience working within agile teams
* Experience with Javascript
* Exposure to Node.js
* Docker
* Bash
