About Community Threat Intel - Espionage:

The Espionage team is dedicated to protecting the users of the Facebook family of applications (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus) from advanced threat/nation-state actors. Our investigators must possess deep knowledge of advanced threat actors (including their tactics, techniques, and procedures) as well as an understanding of the overall threat landscape and geopolitical climate. Using this knowledge, we leverage a variety of data sources including internal data, open-source intelligence, and third party private intelligence to detect and track adversary groups both on and off the Facebook platform. In order to be successful, our investigators must be able to extract, assimilate, and correlate a wide variety of data to not only track known activity but also to surface previously unidentified activity and develop novel and effective strategies to disrupt attackers.

About this Role:

We want to identify and hire a talented engineer excited to work on building out Python-based investigative code for use by technical investigators. This engineer would be responsible for identifying and creating new internal sources of data, integrating them into an existing investigative collection, and building additional abstractions to help investigators utilize data effectively. Example tasks that they may take on would include: building out our investigative collection with new objects and methods, aggregating data into more intuitive abstractions, developing Python-based workflows and scripts, writing classifiers, or creating integrations for other existing tools.

This engineer would also represent the interests of their investigators in cross-functional meetings and working groups with other engineers focused on development in Hack and with other data analysts at Facebook, and may at times be required to assist with broader engineering efforts within their organization.

This internship will be based in Washington DC, starting September 3rd 2019 and last for 12 weeks (16 if you're a co-op). Please be sure you have at least one semester/quarter of education following the completion of your internship to qualify.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Building out integrations for python-proficient investigators,



Searching for and integrating new data sources into our code base,

Working in a flexible and dynamic environment,

Coding in multiple languages,

Work with multiple actively developed APIs and interfaces.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Demonstrated high proficiency in Python



Experience with or demonstrated ability to work with additional languages and interfaces

Experience with or demonstrated interest in understanding the security and investigations space

Familiarity with API development and usage

Address sensitive content issues, including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, and other objectionable material.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Proficiency with Hack, GraphQL and SQL



Familiarity with data analysis and related Python collections

Familiarity with the information security space and common investigative tooling needs

Experience with investigative tooling development

Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship/co-op
