Work can be performed in one of three locations Washington, DC; Boston, MA; and/or Albuquerque, NM.
Position Description
Active DoD Secret or Top clearance, or equivalent required.
Scientific software programmers must demonstrate an understanding of basic scientific processes and be capable of understanding plasma physics simulation models in MATLAB/Python/IDL. Must possess strong scientific programming skills using low-level programming languages such as C/C++, Fortran to implement abstract numerical computation models.
Specific job functions:
* Design, develop, integrate, and maintain space weather science information system.
* Apply modern Agile software development processes in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting C/C++ and Java applications.
* Participate and review all technical documentation, including interface control document, specifications, test plans, and procedures.
Required Skills
8+ years of experience in general software engineering development and familiarity with research to operations methodology in delivering mission-critical system applications, preferably space weather systems at NOAA/NASA/DoD. Experience in developing with multiple languages C/Fortran/C++/Java and Linux/Unix shell scripts in Centos Linux environment. Must have experience with MATLAB ad Python. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Highly motivated and adaptable in a fast paced and dynamic working environment. Requires a high degree of working independently and capable of collaborating with other subject matter experts.
Desired Skills
Knowledge in conducting and managing system level testing and familiarity with SCM best practices. Knowledge with GIT is plus. Experience in working with data formats like XML, KML, and JSON and associated tools and defining data ontology or dictionary is desired. System engineering, IT security, and scripting for automation skills are preferred. Experience with large and real-time systems and or scientific computing is plus. Experience with C/C++/Fortran programming ionospheric science models and familiarity with 3D HF propagation models is highly desirable

Education
BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent.
