Job Description

The Desktop Engineer is responsible for maintaining National Instruments desktop technologies. This position creates and maintains SCCM packages, collections, reports, and inventory of software packages included in the creation of base desktop configurations. Develop, maintain and enhance standardized images. The Desktop Engineer is a recognized expert in deploying OS and application updates, Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, and Windows Operating Systems. The Desktop Engineer must have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Core Job Responsibilities

* Work as a part of a globally distributed team to install, configure and maintain over 10,000 desktops & laptops globally in a 24x7 environment using SCCM for Windows, and Jamf or AirWatch for Macs.
* Create, update, deploy and troubleshoot images for laptops and desktops.
* Design patching processes and perform OS patch deployments.
* Perform application packaging, deployment, updates, and lifecycle management.
* Generate SW and HW inventory reports using SQL.
* Set desktop and laptop hardware standards and keep up with new models from our preferred vendors.
* Protect end users from malware with Endpoint Protection, Group Policy, Cisco AMP and other tools.
* Deploy and maintain Bitlocker/MBAM, Unified Write Filters, Windows/Desktop Analytics.
* Formulate, project-manage and execute various infrastructure projects to meet business needs.
* Assist Service Desk with research, resolutions and support as needed for advanced cases.
* Evaluate current systems and processes and recommend improvements.
* Research and recommend new methods for enhancing performance, reliability, optimization, tuning and overall user experience.

Job Requirements

* Experience with Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) is required
* Strong understanding of Active Directory infrastructure and Group Policy Objects
* Experience with managing Macintosh via JAMF, AirWatch, or other similar platforms is preferred
* Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft desktop operating systems, in particular Window 7 and 10
* Knowledge of desktop operating system imaging design, build, deployment and lifecycle management
* Experience with PowerShell scripting
* Knowledge of SQL for developing reports is highly desirable
* Knowledge of patch management and desktop security best practices
* Strong analytical and design skills, excellent planning and problem-solving skills
* Excellent communication and customer service kills
* Ability to work independently and as a part of a team with minimal supervision
* Ability to document all aspects of services and technologies provided to the users
* Degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent work experience
