In automation, Omron sees the factory as being a place where humans and machines work in greater harmony, where the machine takes on work suited for a machine, and humans can work free of repetitive stress and danger, with greater freedom to innovate and adapt processes to fit a constantly changing world.

The Position:

Robotics Researchers at ORCA architect and verify new technologies on production footprint, industry proven platforms. Key areas of research include Dynamic Motion Planning, Safe Human-Robot Interaction, Dexterous Manipulation, and Autonomous Intelligent Navigation.

Performance Objectives (1st year):

* Learn about our Robotics organization: Become familiar with Omron's robotics strategy, and build relationships with fellow ORCA staff members, and members from Omron's robotics business, Omron Adept Technologies (OAT).
* Engage in Original Research: Take a leadership role in original research, targeting themes that align with Omron's robotics strategy. Innovation and development cycles will move quickly, encouraging exploration and experimentation.
* Collaborate with other experts: Depending on the scope of the project, seek out and build relationships with experts that can help realize research objectives, such as other Omron groups, or 3rd parties such as universities, startups or established component technology companies.
* Stay Current: Maintain visibility in your fields of interest through participation in conferences, journal publication or standards development.
* Learn about our Omron Product Portfolio: By the end of your 1st year, seek synergy with other aspects of Omron's diverse business portfolio in industrial automation, social systems, automotive and health products.

Relevant Experience:

* Application of optimal control theory, dynamic programming or model predictive control to solve real world problems
* Intrinsic and extrinsic dexterity and methods, as applied to force controlled assembly, parts fastening, bin picking and related tasks.
* Global and local path and motion planning methods
* Human-robot interaction (HRI)
* Autonomous navigation and SLAM
* 2D, 3D sensing technologies as are applicable to HRI and SLAM
* Functional safety methods

Why Should You Apply?

* This is a great opportunity to put your research front and center into markets that have high visibility in the world, and benefit society.
* At Omron you will experience a dynamic and friendly company culture, with benefits that include flexible work hours, extensive learning and career development programs, community outreach and volunteering incentives, and competitive compensation and relocation packages.
* At ORCA, you will enjoy working in the prestigious Bishop Ranch business park with amenities that include on-site dining, fitness center, shuttle service and conference space and more.
* Additional benefits to working in/near San Ramon include beautiful weather year round, highly rated school districts, access to hiking and bicycle trails, mass transit and a soon to be finished city center within walking distance of ORCA.
