Job Description

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, is currently seeking an early career Modeling and Simulation Engineer to join our Seeker and Information Processing Group within the Air and Missile Defense Sector.

Job Summary: This is an entry-level position that will offer the opportunity to develop medium to high fidelity models and simulations to assist in the analysis and assessment of air and missile defense seeker algorithms. Formulate physics based models and implement software that simulates the detection, tracking, discrimination and intercept assessment of missile threat engagements.

Responsibilities:

* Develop solutions to complex modeling challenges from proof-of-concept to current real-world and future air- and space-borne RF and EO/IR sensor representations.


* Develop and integrate real-time and/or event-driven models and algorithms representing current or future tactical system behavior.


* Research and consult with Subject Matter Experts to identify model and software requirements.


* Document design decisions, implementation details, and M&S results.


* Work with analysts to ensure proper use of the M&S and interpretation of results.


* Work with team members to investigate and resolve critical issues.

Required Qualifications:

*
* M.S. degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or comparable program.
* 1-2 years of relative experience and/or coursework
* Experience programming in C and Matlab.


* Experience in M&S or equivalent software engineering activities.


* Experience utilizing configuration management tools and Linux operating systems.


* Strong communication and collaboration skills.


* Strong problem solving skills.


* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


* Ability to understand and debug legacy code.


* Ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance prior to starting.



Desired Qualifications:

* PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or comparable program..


* 3 years of experience with C in a Linux environment and using Matlab to analyze results.


* Experience with Navy or DoD tactical systems.


* Broad knowledge of software development methodologies, best practices, and tools.
