General Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Advanced Services, this is a highly technical role, providing post-sales remote and on-site support of Junipers Network Products.

* This is a full-time position
* The Resident Engineer will support varying projects, sometimes fully dedicated to a short-term project and at other times engaged in single or multiple part time engagements
* Support location will also vary and may be provided remotely from Herndon, VA, and/or on-site at a customer location
* Must be flexible and travel may be 50% or more.
* May occasionally require long work hours

The Resident Engineer should have:

* Experience with Juniper Products across the portfolio
* Well-rounded experience in all characteristics of networking: routing, switching, security, automation, cloud, and data center
* Deep understanding of IP protocols and concepts and common/best practices
* Experience with SD-WAN, Contrail, SDN solutions, virtualization, wireless, and cloud technologies
* Initiative - a self-starter that can take direction but also work effectively autonomously

Initial Engagement

* Short term/part time engagement supporting Army WIN-T.Main location is in Taunton, MA.Other locations are in Aberdeen, MD, and Augusta, GA.
* Initial engagement will be to provide remote support with some short duration travel to Taunton, MA
* Products to be supported: J-Series, SRX, NFX, LN
* Juniper focus is Security with some policy-based routing
* Resident Engineer will be trusted advisor to the customer providing troubleshooting and educational guidance on their network
* Resident Engineer will participate in bi-weekly calls with the customer where issues are raised/discussed. The Resident Engineer will capture issues and work them to closure.

Leveraging a mix of remote and onsite support, the Resident Engineer will provide configuration and implementation support such as the items, listed below, as directed by the Customer.

Juniper Product Configuration Assistance

* System Hierarchy: Name-server, NTP, Login, Services, Syslog, License
* Interfaces, Zones, Virtual routers, Routing
* Security Policies, Address Elements
* Applications, Application-sets
* IP-Sec, Phase 1 proposals, Phase 2 proposal

Implementation Assistance

* Flow Migration cutover and validation
* Policy Hits
* Interface troubleshooting
* IPSec, IKE troubleshooting
* Additional support may be required for the Fort Gordon, GA, location
* Products/technology to be supported: Virtual SRX - zero touch provisioning, Sky Enterprise, Automation

Ideal Strengths

* Expert level relationship management, communications skills and interpersonal skills to manage face to face communications on a daily basis with multiple levels of customer management and engineering staff across multiple departments in a responsible and professional fashion
* Expert level troubleshooting methodology to isolate and identify configuration, design, and software anomalies; ability to clearly articulate findings in written and verbal communications with development level engineering staff
* Ability to apply knowledge to real world scenarios
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work calmly under pressure
* Self-starter, team player, personable, enthusiastic, hardworking, and enjoy interfacing with customers on a daily basis
* It would be a plus to have hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of other vendor products and their operation
* The ability to see a need and insert/suggest Juniper technology and reach to the sales team to suggest same
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
* Ability to prioritize work activity to achieve customer and account team goals
* Ability to effectively work independently and function in a team environment
* Ability to effectively work under pressure with customer engineers and JTAC to resolve hardware and software issues and implement solutions
* Ability to effectively troubleshoot equipment and network problems and to open and track JTAC cases through to problem resolution on pre and post production issues
* Facilitate equipment Return Material Authorizations (RMA's) and track these through to problem resolution
* Ability to effectively communicate case status updates and deliver root cause analysis
* Support informal and formal technology briefings and training sessions
