Facebook Reality Labs has embarked on an ambitious mission to build the next computing platform in augmented and virtual reality systems. Our goals are to eliminate distance, make people smarter and more productive, and replace physical objects, and give people the tools to feel more connected any time and anywhere. We believe that a key component of this mission is to improve and enhance human hearing. We are looking for an exceptional Research Science Lead to join our growing interdisciplinary team in Redmond, WA, working to solve difficult problems at the intersection of hearing, acoustics, mechanical design, auditory perception, spatial audio and signal processing. This full-time position is well suited for someone with a strong interest in leading a research group towards advancing the state of the art in hearing correction and enhancement technologies using AR/VR. The role requires a background in hearing science, signal processing, audiology, microphone array processing or machine learning. The successful candidate will have strong skills and experience in dynamic range compression, speech enhancement, noise suppression, or diagnostic audiology.

Responsibilities

* Lead a team of research scientists to develop the next generation hearing correction algorithms, techniques and systems using AR/VR technology.
* Create a strong research agenda focused on redefining the possibilities of hearing correction and enhancement applications.
* Collaborate closely with a team of engineers to quickly prototype and create hearing correction end-to-end systems.
* Serve as a resident expert working closely with other scientists in spatial audio, room acoustics, microphone arrays, and signal processing.
* Understand and stay up to date on the latest research literature.

Minimum Qualifications

* 5+ years experience working with hearable devices, or hearing correction and enhancement
* 2+ years of experience leading researchers
* Ph.D. in Hearing science, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar
* 5+ years experience with hearing science, signal processing, audiology, microphone array processing or machine learning
* 5+ years of experience in dynamic range compression, speech enhancement, noise suppression, and diagnostic audiology

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in human auditory perception
* Experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques
