Remote Sensing Subject Matter Expert/Modeler

Job Description

SAIC in support of the Remote Sensing Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in El Segundo, CA has an immediate need for a Remote Sensing (RS) Subject Matter Expert (SME) cabable of modeling and analyzing Remote Sensing systems. This job requires a candidate to work within DoD Space Systems acquisition and development who is a SME in the physics and analysis of Remote Sensing systems, especially in Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) phenomenology. Candidate needs experience with modeling and analysis of space and ground systems (desired experience at SMC), system acquisition, broad application of the systems engineering disciplines, and the systems engineering lifecycle. Major duties of the position include:

* Performing technical reviews and assessments, coordinating analyses efforts, methods and techniques, and developing products and briefings for review with government customers, stakeholders, and other contractors
* Facilitating, developing, and applying physics-based modeling to define solutions to SMC/RS problems
* Working closely with the Mission Engineering team (particularly Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis) to facilitate and coordinate data-driven needs and solutions as well as mentoring junior analysis engineers
* Turning user needs into a set of requirements that are feasible, verifiable, clear, concise, and unambiguous
* Interacting with prime contractors and government leads to ensure that all system requirements are coordinated, documented and baselined across the SMC/RS Enterprise
* Supporting the customer in defining, capturing, assessing and maintaining the technical, schedule, and cost risk data throughout the system lifecycle; and developing risk mitigation courses of action
* Developing acquisition-related briefings, plans, papers, and other documentation in support of SMC/RS decision-making
* Providing on-going communication, engagement, and collaboration between the Chief Engineer and other parts of the enterprise (space segment, ground segment, systems engineering, advanced planning, etc.), while identifying and managing integration issues and risks
* Interfacing and collaborating with SE&I team members, prime contractors, other team contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. Air Force
* Advanced degree (Masters) in Science, Engineering, or Math with 7 years relevant experience with space and ground segments of DoD, and other Government space programs
* Current TS/SCI
* Strong, proactive individual who takes the initiative to identify, own and solve customer problems
* Experience leading systems engineering activities in the development, transition to operations, operations and sustainment of complex satellite systems
* Experience in the development of space-based remote sensing systems
* Knowledge of the system development lifecycle, project integration, schedule analysis, and stakeholder processes
* Experience with requirements and interface management, risk management, configuration management, and change board leadership
* Experience identifying and managing risks and issues
* Experience evaluating and improving the application of systems engineering best practices
* Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment
* Superior interpersonal, written and communications skills with the ability to interface with different personalities in a range of positions, including many at very senior levels
* Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently execute work tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment
* Ability to think critically, synthesize information from multiple sources into comprehensive plans
* Ability to provide a wide variety of technical analyses, program management insights and thought leadership to a government customer
