Job Description

Participate in the development, implementation and support of hardware and software for beamline control, data acquisition, and data analysis, for use in beamlines at the Advanced Photon Source. Provide technical support in areas of expertise to APS staff. Candidate will work collaboratively with, or under direction of, APS staff and beamline scientists to implement software and/or hardware solutions for a variety of problems.

Position Requirements

* Good knowledge of digital and analog electronics is required.
* Knowledge of FPGA programming is required.
* Good experience with schematic entry programs such as OrCAD is highly desirable.
* Knowledge and experience with software development in C or C++ under Linux or UNIX operating systems and an ability to work with common Linux/UNIX command shells is required.
* Good experience with software development in high-level languages such as Python, Java, IDL, Qt is highly desirable.
* Good communications and interpersonal skills are required.
* Some skill or experience analyzing, problem solving, and troubleshooting at the interface between hardware and software, and in operating electronic diagnostics equipment is required.
* Some knowledge of EPICS is desirable.
* A technical foundation in electrical engineering or other scientific or engineering discipline is required.
* Occasional on-call support may be required and may sometimes work with minimal supervision.

RD2 Requirements: Bachelor's and 5+ years; Master's and 3+ years; Doctorate and 0 years, or equivalent.

RD3 Requirements: Bachelor's and 8+ years; Master's and 5+ years; or Doctorate and 4+ years; or equivalent.
