Job Description

The R&D Engineer (Medical System Engineering) will report to Director of Research at IPG Medical and will participate in several major research/development projects. Ability to learn new concepts and approaches with minimal guidance Is a must. Highly developed organizational and resource-planning skills are required. Strong understanding or system architecture design, electronic hardware, and embedded software (especially as related to medical devices) Is essential.

Duties:

* Supports development of laser-based Instrumental systems for therapy and surgery. The systems involved are comprised electronics, software, firmware, laser/optical and mechanical hardware.
* Participates in a technical team to achieve systems design and meet specifications.
* Contributes as a team member carrying out assigned responsibilities in a timely, diligent, safe, and professional manner.
* Designs and tests both electronic and software/firmware system components.
* Participates in the Integration and testing of system components and complete systems.
* Develops, maintains, and leverages thorough working knowledge of the company's current products.
* Prepares and maintains all necessary project documentation ensuring compliance with relevant standards (ISO 13485/FDA QSR etc.).
* Generates relevant IP and contributes to other publications.
* Interacts with other groups and departments of the company, both providing necessary assistance and utilizing their resources to move the project forward.
* Keeps abreast with current knowledge in the field of system engineering.
* Analyzes and summarizes collected data, timely reports results, and maintains design/lab records in exemplary order.
* Ensures a safe, healthy and environmentally-friendly workplace by observing Company's procedures and ISO 14001 regulations. Actively Involved in prevention, elimination of potential safety hazards and participation in activities which promotes recycling, replacement and reduction of resource materials.

Requirements

Experience Desired:

* 1-3 years of R&D experience in Industrial Environment is desired, but not required.

Essential Skills Required/Desired:

* Strong understanding of fundamentals of system engineering.
* Fluency in the state-of-the-art knowledge in the fields of power/control electronics and embedded software/firmware.
* Strong "hands-on" lab experience with demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain system/component prototypes as well as to plan and perform test programs.
* Expertise in C/C++/C# code development and testing.
* Working knowledge of modern statistical analysis tools required.
* Working knowledge of medical device design process, with emphasis on ISO and FDA requirements.
* Experience with mathematical software (MathCad, Matlab}, database programming tools, data processing tools, CAD tools Is desired.
* Travel may be required 1-5 % of the time;
* Experience with laser/optical systems ls desired, but not required.

Education Required:

* Master's Degree in physics, biomedical engineering or similar field.

Personal Requirements:

* Excellent oral and written communication (English), and Interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
* Ability to work in an environment with competing priorities is necessary
* Must be able to work in a cross-functional team environment
* Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22C.F.R. §120.15 are required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee. License exception Technology and software under restriction (TSR) defined in 15 CFR 740.6 may permit person from Country Group B.
