Job Description

Position SummaryThe Project Manager will provide oversight for all day to day activities of a new project to improve preservation services for publishing scholarship in digital forms. The project will test different methods and identify and document strategies and best practices to help authors & publishers prioritize and plan their enhanced digital products with long-term preservability in mind. Inputs to the project are primarily scholarly materials from participating university presses. Preservation partners include the CLOCKSS and Portico services, as well as the participating university libraries themselves. Working in 'sprints' of two to three-month cycles per format type, the Project Manager will organize participating academic publishing, technology, legal, and archival experts to review, summarize, and document the cycle activity, continually adjust guidelines and determine what will be tested in subsequent cycles. The Project Manager will be responsible for insuring that dissemination activities are happening, and for convening one or two meetings to shape project strategy and organize specific follow-on activities. This is an 18-month, fixed-term position. By the end of the project, the Project Manager will finalize a guidelines document, including a summary of activities and outcomes from the content transfer work. Qualifications Required Education:Bachelor's Degree Preferred Education:Master's Degree MLIS, MS, or MA with concentration in archival administration, or equivalent experience. Required Experience:1+ years 1 (+) years of technical project management experience in a cultural heritage or research library setting. Experience with metadata schemas, vocabularies and content standards and various encoding/transmission formats. Demonstrated success working collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals (both local and remote). Preferred Experience:1+ years Experience working with digital library or publishing projects of significant complexity. Familiarity with complex digital objects and/or publishing workflow. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of metadata standards and protocols. Management skills, including the ability to create and implement project plans and schedules, develop technical documentation, establish high performance standards, and deliver quality results. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including the ability to report about complex data. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Familiarity with metadata standards commonly used in digital preservation.
