Project Analyst - Technical Editor

Introduction

Merrick is seeking an experienced Project Analyst with a background in scientific projects, environments, and programs to create, edit, managed technical project documentation and provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) support along with assisting in general management for projects in the Washington, DC area. This position will be based in our new, growing Arlington, VA office.

Job Description

Desired experience includes technical editing, research, writing, copy editing, and proofreading; proficiency with PC-based software including expert-level experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and PDF creation applications. Experience in technical editing and writing in a life sciences project environment is preferred.

The successful candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude who possesses excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with project managers. Must be self-motivated, able to take initiative, work independently, and carry projects through to successful completion. Must also be reliable, detail oriented, able to follow established formats and procedures, meet expectations for attendance and punctuality, and perform well under deadlines while working with multiple levels of internal staff and teaming partners. Successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while coordinating multiple projects and multiple deadlines.

The successful candidate will:

* Utilize proficiency and professionalism to support development and delivery of superb quality project documents, tools, and presentation.
* Support a team of Program and Project Managers to ensure technical and project deliverables are accurate, proofed, consistent, and professional.
* Implement quality control measures in accordance with Merrick and Client requirements to draft and manage consistency in documents and presentations.
* Become familiar and comply with Merrick's systems, procedures and reporting protocols, and report regularly to Merrick senior management on project performance
* Support and integrate Merrick and Client branding efforts across a wide spectrum of products and deliverables.
* Communicate and coordinate with all project stakeholders as required for successful project execution.
* Maintain and develop positive client relationships.
* Be available to do minimal travel, including internationally for project work.
* Have or be able to obtain low-level security clearance for work with the US Federal Government.
* Assist in coordinating the day-to-day work of project technical staff, consultants, contractors, and meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.
* Implement excellent multi-tasking skills to support product delivery from a wide team of Project Managers and Technical Leads.
* Apply analytical skills to project approaches, standards, and solutions, throughout project lifecycle
* Lead Technical document creation and editing for multiple projects.
* Lead QA/QC reviews of project deliverables
* Performs scientific technical writing at an intermediate level to expert level, requiring knowledge of technical writing procedures and production.
* Capable of working independently and takes initiative to complete assignments

General Management skills and responsibilities may include:

* Flexibility and experience to receive and respond to a variety of technical and administrative inquiries, and complex editing tasks on a daily basis.
* High degree of professionalism, integrity, and business ethics required.

Required Experience and Qualifications

* Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple technical editing projects.
* Bachelors of Arts / Science in English, communication, marketing, public relations or related field is required.
* Masters of Science in a life science or technical discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, or related field) is a plus.
* Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrable education/professional experience in biology, life sciences, and/or information technology (IT) is required.
* Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience performing technical document review and editing is required.
* Minimum of two (2)+ years of professional experience writing technical documentation at a life science and/or IT company is a plus.
* Minimum of two (2)+ years of professional experience performing graphic design duties at a life science and/or IT company is a plus.
* Keen attention to detail to ensure consistent graphic design, especially document layouts.
* Expert-level experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and PDF creation applications.
* Proficiency in developing graphics, with ability to use Visio, Adobe Illustrator, or similar.
* Client projects for this position require United States Citizenship (or capability to obtain within 6 months).
* Good working knowledge of the biosafety and biosecurity field, emerging technologies, government/academic/industrial programs.
* Past performance working in or for U.S. federal agencies (i.e., DoD, DHS, HHS) strongly preferred.
* Local candidates preferred. Relocation may be considered.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as but not limited to: computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, scanners and plotters.
