Job Description

BAE Systems' Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) Information Technology (IT), Application Solutions service area has a need for a Programmer/Technical Support Analyst who will directly support BAE Systems' Ship Repair business unit. The Ship Repair business unit focuses on dry-docking and pier-side non-nuclear ship repair, modernization and overhaul services with shipyards strategically located on the east, gulf, and west coasts. Specific facilities are located in Norfolk, Virginia; Jacksonville, Florida; San Diego, California; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. These ship yards provide services to the U.S. Navy, other defense agencies such as Military Sealift Command, the Maritime Administration, the U.S Army, and the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as commercial customers. Ship Repair's commercial market includes tankers, cargo ships, and cruise ships.

The Programmer / Technical Support Analyst will work within BAE Systems' Enterprise Shared Services - Information Technology's (ESS-IT) Application Solutions organization supporting the application portfolio for BAE System's Ship Repair business unit. This application portfolio includes applications within multiple functional areas (e.g. Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Time Keeping, Manufacturing, Human Resources, Legal, Operations, and Business Development). This position, under general supervision, will be responsible for new or enhanced development of applications, application to application data interfaces, Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) applications and integrations, and their Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support. Additional responsibilities will include user support, system monitoring, troubleshooting, resolution identification, remediation, and testing, compliance and adherence to security, implementation, incident, change, and configuration processes, and producing / maintaining documentation. This position will have interaction with customers and technologists at all levels including management.

Programmer Analyst Role

* Experience with software development and O&M support using industry recognized delivery methodologies (e.g. SDLC, Agile, and their hybrids). Experience in software requirements, design, coding, unit testing, integration, build and release management, and the creation and maintenance of associated documentation.
* Designs, develops, and implements enhancements to existing supported applications (Custom and COTS) within the portfolio and assists with the modernization of information technology of the applications in the portfolio (e.g. consolidations; Custom to COTS) in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the business.
* Integrates knowledge and skills from a range of technologies to address work assignments and problems of moderate complexity.
* Contributes to database design, development, and enhancement within either the Oracle DBMS or the MS SQL Server DBMS.
* Establishes and maintains clear, open and productive levels of communication with business customers and other business and technical stakeholders.
* Develops a detailed awareness and understanding of business processes and workflows; leverages that knowledge to provide comprehensive application focused IT support.
* Assists in the development of high level design documents, detailed system design specifications, test plans, O&M guides, release notes, user guides and other technical documents as required.
* Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Technical Support Analyst Role

* Resolves routine user and application issues and problems, resolves incident tickets escalated to them.
* Troubleshoots and provides diagnostics and maintenance of supported applications
* Monitors application processes to determine operational problems or errors and initiates corrective actions.
* Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates current applications to determine improvements and make recommendations to the business.
* Assists with technical and business testing of new releases of applications, vendor modifications, upgrades and patches.
* May serve as system/tool administrator.
* Communicates and coordinates with vendors to resolve technical issues.
* Assists in the development of user guides and manuals for system users. Assists in training users as needed.
* Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
