Job Description

The Engineering for Professionals (EP) program of the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering seeks an Academic Program Manager to oversee its Computer Science (CS), CyberSecurity (CyS), Data Science (DS), and Information Systems Engineering (ISE) master's degree programs and their associated graduate certificate and other joint degree programs. Working with the Program Chairs and Vice Chairs, the incumbent's responsibility is the tactical day-to-day decision-making, operation, and management of the four academic programs. The scope of activities include curriculum support, academic planning and scheduling, student advising, recruiting and training academic advisors, and recruiting, hiring and monitoring of part-time instructors. The Program Manager serves as the primary contact for these computer and information based programs. Administratively the individual works for the APL Education Center and reports to the Center's supervisor, but his or her efforts are to be mainly focused on supplying the needed support, services, and academic leadership required by the four computer and information based programs. For all academic matters related to the operation of the CS/CyS/DS/ISE programs, the Program Manager will report to the program chairs for CS/CyS and DS/ISE.

Duties:

* Oversee and direct the daily operations of the CS/CyS/DS/ISE programs, the Bioinformatics joint degree program, and the planned Artificial Intelligence Program (AI).
* Oversee the admissions process of the CS/CyS/DS/ISE programs, and the planned AI program, to include review of special case applicants and providing direction to the EP admissions staff.
* Participate in the design and implementation of a 5-year growth strategy for faculty and any program specific facilities for the four programs.
* Assist the program chairs in managing and recruiting instructors, assuring sufficient depth to open new sections on short notice.
* Manage the academic planning process and schedule course sections and instructors.
* Design and implement the faculty evaluation and mentoring process for the four programs.
* Support faculty and directly oversee administrative staff assigned to the programs.
* Select, prioritize, and coordinate with the EP Center for Learning Design and Technology to develop on-line, face-to-face, and hybrid courses for the four programs.
* Manage the catalog process for the listed programs. Assist in the development of presentation materials and participate in semi-annual online information sessions,
* Manage the advisors and advising process for all programs to include recruiting, training, and maintaining appropriate numbers of advisors with balanced student load.
* Develop the yearly budget request in cooperation with the relevant program chairs. Manage the execution of the budget.
* Compose Maryland Higher Education Commission proposals for new programs and programs with substantial changes, in conjunction with EP staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* Doctoral degree or equivalent years of professional experience with a minimum of at least 10 years' experience in teaching and related academic activities with a particular focus on computer science, cyber security, information systems engineering and/or data science.
* Significant involvement with the computer science, cyber security, and/or data science communities of practice with demonstrated contributions to the field.
* Administrative and/or management experience, ideally in an academic setting.
* Excellent leadership and communications skills, with the ability to work with a large diverse set of faculty, students, and staff.
* Self-starter with excellent work habits and task follow through.
* The ability to work independently, and form and participate in project teams.
* Team player with demonstrated collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications:

* Ph. D. in computer science, cyber security, data science or a closely related field with experience in course and curriculum development and instruction for all course delivery modalities.
* It is also considered important to have familiarity with the EP program as well as leadership experience in the APL environment.
* A willingness to teach on an annual or more-frequent basis at least one EP course in the areas of computer science, cyber security, information systems engineering and/or data science.

Special Working Conditions:

Regular short term travel is required to the JHU Whiting School of Engineering EP Offices located on the main JHU-WSE campus (Homewood) in Baltimore. Occasional Travel is required to workshops, conferences, and partnership sites.

Security:

Eligibility to obtain a Secret level security clearance required. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
